Literally art students trying to make their degrees relavent. They'll just keep adding letters like they did to LGBT. Soon STEM will be STEAMSFARTYFUCKGIBSMONEY
>>
It's okay, I appreciate its support of GNU/Linux, but it's still proprietary AND a form of DRM, albeit a less annoying one than most. I'd rather buy any games I can via the Humble Store and use the DRM free versions however. That or GOG.

This desu. Adding arts makes it so inclusive as to be nearly meaningless, like how LGBBTQIAAP has expanded to encompass everyone except straight people who disagree with them, or how PoC just means everyone except Anglo-American white people.

What degrees are left outside that description? Accounting?

Undersea welding.

Don't forget underwater basket weaving and women's studies.

You mean art appreciation, shitlord.

Art students trying to get their hands into pockets of STEM scholarships.

I still don't understand how people confuse a fun hobby with what is supposed to put bread on your table. It's a lot more sensible to get a job and use the money you make from there to fund your hobbies and interests, such as art.

Using art as a degree to try to get a job just feels ass-backwards to me. The only way you can succeed is by name-recognition. In the same way that Hollywood actors are well paid and have occupations, they spent a lot of effort getting their name out there to be well known and consequently get more and more work. The possibly great actors, that act as a hobby, may just be just as good, if not better, but won't get hired because they're not known about.

In other words, you'd have to whore yourself out and advertise the fuck out of yourself just to get sustainable income.

>>51317865
Yep, pretty much. Also take note how the 'e' is lowercase making it appear less important. This is similar yo how 'male-oriented' parts of the LGBTWTFBBQ salad got relegated to the back.

>one of these things is not like the others
Artfags need to fuck off, even as a hobby artist. I respect the arts at their highest, but right now they're at their absolute lowest. Even at their highest it still has nothing to do with the other science related fields.

It was a viable carreer path decades/centuries ago. Now its shit cuz postmodernfags ruined art xompletely.
>>
Various fields of art are extremely important socially and economically, from architecture and industrial design to 3D modeling and animation. Hell, illustration and other more traditional art forms are extremely important to the success and perception of classically STEM-focused fields.

However, art education is laughable. The people who make art into a career path are the people who focus on modern and important fields, and for whom a degree is merely a certification, not a ticket to a job. All the education in the world is useless if you're not going to do something meaningful with it, and what most art grads consider meaningful is woefully out of touch with reality.
>>

>xompletely

You can say completely, Anon. Art doesn't have a gender.
>>
>>51317721
And the Engineering is lowercase, top kek, art fags need to btfo.
>>
University education became worthless the moment it became about specialisations anyway. What does it matter if the students get their pretty piece of paper through arts or STEM shit, neither offers rounded education either way.

To be fair, LGBT always was just a kludge label for the group "non-cishet people". Well... as long as one understood that transgenders weren't really related to sexualities.
"STEAM" isn't even trying to capture a group.

>>51318653
No, it's an aesthetic choice. You wouldn't understand.
>>
>>51319005
Back then it was also much rarer for people to get an education past what was mandatory, those that did succeeded head and shoulders above others.

Nowadays, just having a degree isn't enough. It has a to be a relevant degree, you have to have experience, etc.

The job market just isn't as it was then.
>>
Why even have the term if you’re going to add the shit it was trying to exclude?
>>

>Art education constitutes an important component of teaching in primary and secondary schools
Be honest anons. When the fuck did you feel it was so important for you to pass art class to the point where it made the difference between passing and failing your whole year. STEM is what it is for a fucking reason. Art never had so much of an impact on society as any of the sciences or variants of them. Fuck these underbasketweavingwater degrees

You mean like programming?

>Art never had so much of an impact on society as any of the sciences or variants of them
Being this deluded.

Let's pick the nearest example, the fucking Internet, do you really think it would be relevant if people couldn't share their art with the world? (shitty articles, cat pics, porn aka. art)
>>
I respect the fine arts, but anyone trying to lump that with STEM is delusional. It's a completely different skillset.
>>
>>51320714
Some day, I think this will just be a hobby, but right now, it's still profitable work and you can readily find programming jobs.

I think it'll still eventually go down the route "art" did.

Imo I only support it for the sake of teaching integrity, (even if it only covers a small patch of teaching integrity) for some people giving them an art to excel in gives them a reason to excel in STEM. Don't care if it didn't work for you, but for certain people it means something.

Besides, life would be dull if it were /r9k/ all the time.
