Why are there almost no women in programming?

I think the better question is

Why are there almost no traps in programming and how do I meet the ones who are?

Social and cultural expectations of certain genders direct you (and women) to the choices in life that you tend to make.

Most women aren't into videogames, hunting and football, just like most men aren't into decorating and scrapbooking.

There are cultural expectations of both sexes that influence your decision making during your upbringing.

Goddamn, this is a tired fucking question. Just google it next time, shit.
>>
It's not a very glamorous or rewarding career. It's like asking why there are no women sewage workers.
>>
>>51306143

Well there's probably tonnes of them around you, but by their definition they look like regular girls.
Just ask them whether they have a dick or not. They're usually pretty civil about it and I've gotten myself loads of ass this way.

Women are smarter than men on average in Bell Curve. But men have more outliers and therefore are smarter/dumber on the extreme edges. Programming is such task that's on the edge from average work.

>programming takes brains

lol, xD
>>
>>51306187
And then you woke up? QT Traps are just as much of a unicorn sighting as non-slutty hot chicks, who don't have 400 men wanting to get into that fine piece of ass because the male to female ratios are about 300:1. Thank god I like graphics programming so much otherwise I might be forced to turn gay.

>inb4 you are already are

But there are... In fact there are almost NO women in programming, food for thought.
>>
>>51306127
>Why are there almost no women in programming?
It doesn't matter what sex the programmers are you sexist pig. Stop man shaming please.
>>
>>51306143
Traps is overrated.

99.9% of them are just fat hairy men with masculine faces.
>>
>>51306216

But I fucking hate google, it's a conspiracy invented by the Juden to take over the world and oppress us.
If search shit like this they'll know what I'm up to, they'll take away my wife and kids and I'll be left with nothing.
>>
>>51306233
Any abstract work takes bit of smart. Without a strong spacial reasoning skill, you won't be able to program to a great success.
>>
>>51306127
most women are just not smart enough tbhfamm
>>
There are definitely some female programmers but usually they are tied to acting girly and thus pursue womanly careers because they never have the opportunity to dive into programming and see for themselves

There are. Their IQs are just too high to participate in any feminist programming movement, and it's so easy for them to find a well-paying job that they don't have time to rice and shitpost on /g/

This so much. Also I am often coaching people on how to get into coding. I am mostly doing that for free, once in a blue oon gettiing paid when it's for commercial company. The thing is I only once had a woman in my "class" even though it is free to participate. Don't get me wrong, I don't care if there is some social stigme, it's 2012+3 and they don't even bother to try.

If a rarely man do things that women like to do, he makes it better than 99.9% of women. If a rarely woman do something men do, her best is average man level.

Out of curiosity, do you think anyone that isn't dumb can learn how to be decent at coding? I can code but I know some people who, for whatever reason, would struggle with getting into it much more than I did, even if they aren't dumb overall.

Anyone can learn basic programming logic but not everybody is able to think in this manner. Out of the people who do learn basic logic, not all are capable of progressing beyond trivial looping exercises.

Yes. I am not a special snowflake myself. I have average intelligence, even in highschool I had problems passing some classes that needed a lot of actual work to be done. All I have above average is my memory.
I pulled myself from total newbie at coding to mid-senior level in 2 years. I spent more than 13 hours daily on average (8 in work, 5 in home). Coding, much like anything else, requires you to work. As long as you are truly not dumb and is willing to sacrifice a lot of time - anyone can get decent. Infact considering how many positions are open for any given level (junior-mid-senior) I would say it's not only doable but smart to try yourself at.
>>
>>51306620

IMO it's a mix of perseverance, how you learn and luck. You need to approach programing in a certain way to digest it properly. I know the first time I tried to learn a language it went terribly, but after that I figured out what I was doing wrong and the process became a lot more stream lined when I approached the next language.

Women aren't in to football because they're terrible at football have you seen females play football on a professional level? It's a terrible joke. as an experiment a professional female football team played against a mediocre high school football team guess who got crushed? Women aren't into building stuff because they're not strong or think logically or mechanically women are just different than men that's not bad that's not good it just is what it is evolution made us that way

Yeah, these all make sense. I've been thinking that high schools should emphasize CS more, at least as much as AP Bio, Calculus, and Physics. Not everyone that gets As in those classes ends up in those fields for life, but it's all good knowledge. My high school didn't bring back CS until the year right after I graduated.
>>
>>51306181
God you sound like a major beta am I the only nerd here that gets a variety of multicultural pussy on a regular basis?
>>
>>51306722
I live in Europe. My CS was literally playing CS and Quake 3 for 3 years straight. We did nothing and had a passive teacher who didn't bother. I had some experience in PHP back in highschool as I was selling scripts online/coding really simple stuff so I took over for a few classes. Like 4 classes of coding basics through the 3 year period.
Highschools suck.
>>
There's plenty, considering the situation. Programming pays well but it's often an unstable job and even if you maintain the same job. For the vast majority of programmers the crunch anti-pattern is very real.

Men (like me: an asshole without any other marketable skills) are stuck in this industry and will convince themselves it is great. When women have the capability they often move into a more stable field. I'd do the same if the situation (and my skills) allowed.
>>
>>51306740
>Highscools suck.
Agreed, but with all this talk about making college free (here in the US) I figured we should just raise the standards of public high school education; optimize them for stuff that's actually useful.
>>
>>51306788
You have a fair point. In my country highschool was profiled basased on your choice. Eg. you could pick mathematics-physics profile and have 7 math classes per week, or biology-chemistry and have a shitton of chemistry classes. It really gave me a lot, I picked math-physics and was bound to be good at math or fail quickly.
Nowadays I don't even live back in my country but I have to say we had excelent pre-university education. I have learned so much I actually did not have to do much anything at all for the first semester of university. My highschool teacher covered as far as integrals which seems sick in comparison to where I live at now lol.

Not only football but they did this with Olympic female hockey and a high school team won 2 of 3 games same thing happened with tennis two of the best females played against the 51st best male and he was half drunk and destroyed them why would females like to do something they're bad at compared two men first off the can't make any money because nobody wants to watch mediocre sports when I can watch the best the best
>>
Definitely some of this
>>51306700
and some of this
>>51306181

It's the classic nature vs nurture issue. Innate, environmental and cultural factors all play a role, and it's premature to exclude any.

The only important questions are:
1. Does an individual woman who happens to have the same interest and skill set as an individual man face more challenges/"adversity"?
2. If you're "culturally conditioned" not to be interested in a certain field and you don't develop the interest of your own volition after ample time/opportunities to do so, can society really have been said to choose your interests/career for you and coerce you into them?

protip: answers to both are no
>>
>>51306823
So in other words the ratio between emphasis and general education was closer to a college's set up? Lucky.
>>
>>51306588
Only like 3 woman ever have completed a class 9a rock climb but almost any mediocre male can do that. And the females who have completed that tried multiple times over several days barely making it
>>
>>51306700
they stopid lmao
>>
>>51306127
They have soggy knees or something, sounds terrible.
>>
Because they really honestly do not enjoy it and absolutely nothing will be gained by forcing people into careers they'll honestly not enjoy. It's really just that, and third wave feminists are really dumb.
>>
>>51306833
I think that this is a Fairley correct assessment but what I see happening is women are the ones defining the social expectations take my daughter for instance I encourage her to follow anything she wants to do and don't push her in any sort of direction towards anything but looking at the women in her life as soon as they found out it was a girl they were running out to the store and buying every pink fucking thing that could find Barbies dresses pillows drapes and then fantasizing about her wedding I always have to backpedal for them and tell them to slow the fuck down let her make those decisions
>>
>>51306788
>Agreed, but with all this talk about making college free (here in the US)
Whoa whoa whoa

Who the fuck wants to turn our education into an autistic degree factory like the euros have?
>>
>>51306143
faggot
>>
>>51306872
Female grip strength is terrible compared to men's. Studies have been done man an average man can constantly beat female athletes when it comes to grip strength.
>>
>>51306949
Democrats, don't worry, everyone realizes that's literal socialism, it'll never become federal law.

You probably don't want to be in California though.
>>
>>51306949

>Who the fuck wants to turn our education into an autistic degree factory like the euros have?

It pretty much already is look at the amount of idiot students who are involved in the Yale incident there's a huge amount of students that are calling for somebody's resignation because they wrote an email saying that students should be allowed to use their judgment in what costumes to wear for Halloween
>>
Womem need emotions.
There is no such thing with programming.
>>
And what about Grace Hopper? Just take a look at this and you'll see that some major progress in computing science have been made by women:
http://m.livescience.com/20718-computer-history.html
>>
>>51306977
So what you're saying is it's not social expectations that are keeping women from climbing it's because they're different and inferior in physical strength?
>>
>>51307012
> women who love to and is excellent at communicating and talking creates new language

Wow imagine that
>>
>>51306934

I would recommend sharing more boyish hobbies with her. It might seem good to take a few steps back but if you don't make an effort to expose her to your interests you'll lose a valuable opportunity. A lot of fathers tend to hide themselves from their daughters and believe that they have no interest in their hobbies but this doesn't really benefit anyone. My father's tendency to buy me remote control cars or take me with him to tech stores made a real difference in my life, even if I wasn't 100% receptive to him at the time.
>>
>>51306127

too long fingernails
>>
>>51306949

Apparently a lot of people want to. Millions of people don't understand how the economy or labor markets work, but they love to pretend that they do.
>>
>>51307059
When I go fishing she goes fishing when I go hunting he goes hunting when I go to the auto race park she goes. So she definitely gets exposed to a lot of my hobbies not that I would necessarily say those are male only hobbies s but I usually don't see a whole lot of other females out there doing them
>>
There are more women in programming than there are men in nursing.
>>
>>51307011

What is we learn how to program emotions?
>>
>>51307095
Nurses are just want to be doctors and that field is really disproportionate
>>
There are lots of women doctors, lawyers, businesman, scientists, but you dont see a lot of women engineers. Programming is a craft, women dont like crafts like auto mechanics, carpentry or anything where you are building for the sake of building.
>>
>>51306127
Gender studies needs them to complain about not enough women in other fields
>>
>>51306281
By definition, that makes them not a trap.

Traps, for all intents and purposes, looks like a girl. It isn't until the pants go off that you notice there's a willy down there.

Hence, they lure you in with feminine charm and looks, only to trap you with their penis.
>>
>>51306127
Cause most of them chose to keep bitching about salaries, women rights and dresscode instead of coding.
