Tell me everything wrong with the surface book. Friend wants to buy one, even though it is 200 dollars more than a rMBP
>>
It's better than a rMBP despite its shortcomings.

Most of the failings are software related and have been getting hammered out fairly quickly. Others have had no issues at all.

It's a reasonable buy if they genuinely want a 2-in-1 solution and is the best one on the market.

If they're an actual artist however, I would advise a SP4 over the SB.

Otherwise if you want specifics check out /r/surface to see the good and the bad in its current state.

Stop trying to tell your friend how to spend their own money to fit your own ideals of what's good or bad by looking for specific reasons to make the case for bad. At least be objective with it.

>more expensive than a rMBP
The fuck were they thinking?
>>
>>51298334
They think of the people who need to get the job done faster with better tools.
>>
>>51298329
OP here. I agree with what you're saying. I just wanted him to make sure he knows what he's buying before he drops a grand and a half
>>
>>51298205
>Friend wants to buy one, even though it is 200 dollars more than a rMBP

Are you a poorfag or something, OP?
>>
Just let him buy whatever he wants ladchapm8.

If you push people to buying a certain product they will make you viable for any little shortcoming they might discover, you don't actually want that do you?
>>
Posting on one right now.

If microsoft would acknowledge and fix the software bugs this would be the ultimate laptop. In its current state however, I couldn't recommend this to anyone.

I'd return it but i dropped my phone on it and now its dented.
>>
>>51298205
Why bother?

The compelling feature is the tablet mode. If that means nothing to you then it just comes down to mac vs windows.
>>
>>51298329
>It's better than a rMBP despite its shortcomings

how.
>>
>>51299485

Utility.
>>
>>51299734

I don't need a tablet with a 3 hour battery life though, nor a touch screen. I prefer no smudges on my hi res screen.
>>
>>51299798

That's your problem.
>>
>>51298334
These aren't meant for poor-tier mechanics. Why do you care?
>>
>>51299808

Problem? No it means that your shitty metric of "utility" doesn't always apply. You really have no good arguments for claiming the Surface Book is "better." You're just shilling your opinion.
>>
>>51299980

No that's *your* shitty metric of utility.

It's actual fact that this utility exists.

Whether it's of use to you, or if you feel the value proposition is worth it for your own wallet is a different matter all together and is quite subjective. That doesn't mean said utility suddenly doesn't exist.

Don't be a faggot anon you know better.
>>
>>51300095

I never said it didn't exist, nor that it isn't a utility. It simply doesn't add any value for many people. You claimed twice that the metric exists and once that I said it didn't exist, which isn't true. Learn to read you dumb bastard.

A metric measures something. In this case, utility can roughly measure the value of something. In this case, it is "shitty," because it is a very poor predictor of subjective value, because most people don't need a laptop that is also a shitty tablet.

Examples of good metrics: processing power, RAM, weight, resolution.

Medium metrics: form factor, build quality (unless it's horrible), keyboard.

Shit-tier metrics: "muh utility"

Go get AIDS.
>>
>>51298334
Normies love to spend money if they think it gives them a financial edge. People saying "money doesn't matter" throw that out the window when they see their friend going on lavish vacations and buying shit they can't afford.

Normies will spend, don't you worry.
>>
>>51298334
FULCRUM HINGE
MUSCLE WIRE

you think that shit comes free?
>>
>>51298205
Is just as locked down as the mbp (you don't have access to the inner parts)
>>
>>51298205

1. impossible to self-maintenance
2. no docking station (yet)
3. fragile
4. expensive
5. medium tier battery
6. glitchy charger build
7. limited warranty

it's a money sinkhole and a maintenance nightmare
but it has capabilities nothing else has
and it is superior in that respect
>>
>>51300303

that tech in itself makes it the most advanced device on the market
>>
>>51298334
Whoops, sorry poorfag, this level of sophistication is beyond you
>>
>>51300254
In other words, you're too poor to buy the surface book
>>
>>51300303
Pays more for laptop with a fancy hinge that can't even close itself.
>>
>>51300507
My oh my, what do we have here? A poor fag with a macbook I suppose? Eat shit out of you hands faggot
>>
>>51300373
Just to argue some of your points so that OP knows:

1. Definitely hard to repair
2. Doesn't the Surface Dock work with the SP4's data/power connector?
3. Screen will be fragile, but the rest is magnesium and the hinge design is extremely sturdy
4. Expensive for sure, but it's justified
5. Praise for the battery's been widespread. The tablet on its own doesn't last long, but the whole unit's reported to last upwards of 14 hours
6. Charger I haven't heard much about
7. I'll bet that Microsoft's warranty's sketchy across the board

Definite cons from what I've read:

Gaming performance (and performance in general) won't be top-drawer, but it'll still be fairly capable

The hinge doesn't tilt very far. It seemingly tilts a little further when powered on, but that's it.

The hinge wobbles a lot.

The dock button is hit-and-miss and since the docking action's dependent on battery life, the screen could be stuck in canvas mode until a recharge... Or it could just be stuck there when you don't want it in, and that's ignoring the actual software bugs.

Magnetic pen storage doesn't look that great, as the pen will keep falling off. Unlike the SP4, there's no type cover to slide the pen clip into.

For its intended use though, the SB looks brilliant. If I got it myself, I'd find myself getting a little pissed off by the quirks, so if your friend's that sort of person, suggest that they just focus on a good laptop. The XPS 15's an absolute monster for this sort of price range.
>>
>>51300537
"SP4's data/power connector" should say "SB's data/power connector. How silly of me.
>>
>>51300504

>tfw wangblows users have been criticizing the mac poorfag argument for years and now they finally can use it themselves
>>
>>51300593
It feels so good to use it
>>
>>51300527
It doesn't have a gimped processor and the lid shuts, but you can keep on using your half assed incomplete microsoft hardware and software.
>>
>>51300537

>>SB connector
I was thinking of a dock that business class workstation-type laptops have, where you can plug it into a device that has more peripheral ports, or that is connected to a main monitor of larger size

>>fragile
I was thinking how you can slam a T60 into a brickwall by accident (it happens) and a piece of plastic will chip off, but the frame is unaffected, and then all you need to repair it is buy a $27 part and screw it on -- the thought of bare metal getting dented makes me cringe

these are somewhat trivial matters if what the user wants is a portable tablet computer with full blown discrete graphics and high resolution display -- its a pretty niche market it seems to me, but one that will have deep pockets
>>
>>51300631
Yeah keep trying to justify your purchase of a macbook that you got shilled into purchasing by /g/

you retards support a product designed by Microsoft to be broken by design, then your next best argument is the next worst product you can buy.

Doesn't the pen cost extra on the MacBook?
>>
>>51300507
the laptop closes perfectly fine. it has a teardrop shaped hinge, that doesnt mean the laptop doesnt close. oh the keys arent imprinting the screen like every macbook pro? boo hoo
>>
>>51300699
hows the macbook pro's touchscreen + pen + fulcrim hinge and tablet?

oh you have to buy a $900 ipad seperately to get all that. got it.
>>
>>51301217

>he thinks the fulcrum hinge is a feature

the irony is palpable.
>>
The retina pro's are tried & true....tested a billion times.

This meme-book is a lot of hype and destined to fail you.

Only the highest end configuration is worthwhile@.....$2700...no thanks m8.

I'd take a $1600 configured MBPr 13" instead.
It can drive 4k@60hz, and I don't game or like to get fingerprints on my screen.

did you get it delivered? If so just say it was damaged during shipping, or just say it was damaged out of the box. They can't prove you're lying. You see I bought mine on amazon for a reason, I have till Jan 31st 2016 to return, and no questions asked. Amazon doesn't typically follow up with questions.
>>
>>51299073

also on one to by the way, though I might return it, and get the $1500 one instead, I got the one with the 256gb 8gb dgpu, can save $500 if I get the one with only 128gb no dgpu instead and have the same quality build

The keyboard keys won't imprint the screen, just your house keys when you toss them in your man purse and they find their way into that gap.
>>
>>51298334
Maybe they want to use it in a business, as opposed to a Mac which is a child's toy and is compatible with nothing.

I might try to blame the dent on shipping, good idea

I got the 128gb/dgpu, its a great laptop but I'm put off by all the bugs. Maybe next gen.
