I mostly plan on playing games from 2007-2014, ones I couldn't run before, then probably torrenting some AAA stuff like Witcher 3.

290 is maybe 10% slower for 20% cheaper cost or if you get a reference 290 and a expensive 970 you will be around 20% slower for saving 150 bucks. just being realistic. still if you game at 1080p there are few games you won't max out at 60fps with a 290. you can always get 2 reference 290's and beat a 980ti/fury x in anything with good crossfire scaling, but at the loss of power consumption and if the title has poor scaling you will probably dip to maybe 25% faster than a single 290 or even no benefit if it is a old or atrociously optimized title.
