This is a massive problem with Linux. If I had the time to read and memorize the entire documentation for every piece of software, I would. I work in the far north far removed from any town with people who could share access to teh web to fix my problems.

I suppose I could have used
sudo apt-get install wget
wget https://www.google.ca/search?q=linux+terminal+browser
and proceeded from there, however, my job requires that I check in regularly.

Gnome 2 was a damn good DE. Not perfect but it was simple and it worked. Gnome 3 is, ill admit, not the worst thing I've ever used but it is not what I want. I want a modern version of gnome 2 with full gtk2/3 support, no bells and whistles needed. MATE looks promising but is still underdeveloped.
>>
>>51287660
It doesn't give me the options I need unless I spent a disproportionate amount of time fixing it.
Why do that when there are alternatives which provide me with much better capability to make the software work with me instead of against me?

My time is worth more than my money.
>>
>>51288244
>what is the point of the top bar when all you see is the fucking ONE instance of whatever is focused on at a time?
That's called the App Menu. By default, all windows have a Quit option in there. Gnome apps put their application-level options in there. Do you want to switch tasks? Press alt-tab or the windows key. Gnome's exposé is really great. There are even extensions to place the dock on the desktop or create an entire taskbar.
>>
>>51288397
that is stupid, if i wanted dumb gui gimmicks i would just use osx (which does them better).

i wouldnt really care about the top bar if the the fucking bottom bar still existed. when i have like 4 terminals open i dont want to fucking alt+tab or even worse keep clicking on that dumb dock icon to cycle through them, i want something simple like the old gnome used to have.

but maybe you are right about the extensions, whatever the new version runs like shit anyway and even if i installed 50 extensions to make it look normal it would still drag windows around like a fucking dog

Pretty sure he's talking about the file picker from pressing "Browse..." on a website, and having to pick an image. Like uploading images to 4chan.

The default on all distros is a shitty GTK picker that only displays thumbnails properly on images that have been selected.

What you're showing is a file explorer.

Let me guess, you're some winbabby who never learnt to use workspaces and as a result keeps 14 different windows on a single workspace? If so, I can see why you might need a taskbar to list them all out for you. But if you use workspaces properly, you shouldn't have more than 2-3 windows per workspace, in which case simply alt-tabing is perfectly adequate to navigate between them.

The thumbnails for the pictures that aren't selected are too small. It's not until you click it that you get a decent thumbnail.

This is very annoying when you have a large folder with images saved from 4chan. I sort my 4chan folder by category so I don't have to bother with filenames. This works great with Windows.
However, when I moved to Linux I have a problem because the thumbnails are teeny tiny unless selected.
