Red and black sleeves with combs would probably look really slick, though I'm partial to plain black cables myself.
I like it. Other than maybe drooping the pcie power cables under rather than over, I wouldn't touch it further. Though, that's just my preference again.

a BIOS chip and a capacitor, to repair the board to replace the current one. going from dual dual-core S940 opterons to dual quad-core Socket F Opterons in pretty much the same coniguration. I think the best part is that I can just re-use my existing heatsinks with no ill effects because the wattage on the quad-cores are lower than the dual-cores.
it'll still be inefficient as fuck but at least I'll have 32GB to play with instead of 12. I'll just steal half the RAM out of my server and replace that later.

why not just buy a 8350? 8350 might be slower compared to intel, but its faster than those opterons and costs about $150.

I'm sure a lot of that is the shitty graphics card and the hard drives plus whatever's on the board. the CPUs drop down to 1GHz at idle so it's not too bad for them, but the board is a power hog in its own right.

I'm not a fan of the evo myself and prefer the plus because of the direct heatpipe contact compared to the Evo's copper plate over heatpipes. dunno, just seems to work better for me. there's a definite temp difference.
also, I'd put your fan in pull and not push. it's easier to clean and actually moves more air.

My 970 FTW was hitting almost 80 degrees in that case because there is no airflow into the fan at all. Your GPU will be kissing the top of the case that has absolutely zero ventilation.
I returned mine and just bought a larger MATX case instead.

Any mITX motherboard will do.
As far as cases go,It'll fit in the 250d, if that's your speed. people seem to really like it, despite its chunky stature. It'll be tight, and even though its ~15mm over the "official" max length, it has been proven to fit more than a few times.
Node 304 would *probably* be your best bet though. it'll fit with room to spare.

This station should have i3-2100 / Phenom II performance, maybe a bit less. Perfect for browsing, but not for games.
The main problem of old boards are the features. No SATA3, No USB3, no PCIe 3.0. You can get expansion cards but for anything older than 1st gen i7 I wouldn't do that. Maybe C2Q, but they get too old now.

Mount at the front, the only reason it's open is because my dorm was like 90 last month and my 8350 wasn't happy. I usually have it closed but just one panel doesn't change much noise wise. Might be different with rads though

I don't think that's a very good idea, anon.
Though if it wasn't because there's like no clearance between my soundcard and the motherboard's audio ports, I could probably have tucked that 8pin cable under that little gap between the expansion cards and the motherboard, between the IO side and the PCI-e ports.
I did that once before I upgraded my motherboard/cpu/ram and it was fine.
It works as is though, and that's all that really matters since this case is only temporary anyway.
