And how do you go about replacing the apt selected kernel with a custom kernel? It was not a clean, logical solution and it involved tools that were apparently supposed to manage the kernel for me. If you ignore that stuff and focus on the stuff you did use anyway

Spent hours trying to get rid of color banding (on like 12 different walls) with no luck; settled in the end.
My only real problem is the visualizer. I really like it and see no reason to get rid of it.

When you rice you just have to accept that some things won't work. This is one of them. It looks like something from 2004.

The wallpapers ideally shouldn't have banding in the first place, but if you do need to deal with it just put your wallpaper in photoshop, make a new layer with the color #777777 filled in, Filters-> Add Noise 100%, set the grey layer to "Overlay" blending and then adjust the opacity of that layer to something less than or equal to 10%.
