Never really bought serious headphones before, but I guess everyone has to start somewhere. If I have ~250 to spend on headphones and hardware, should I buy an amp and a dac? If so, how much should I spend on each piece?
>>
>>51255812
What's with those two larger holes on your DT880?
>>
>>51255863
i took the little DT880 nameplate off (out of boredom) and there's nothing to really fill the holes with. i wonder if i can buy a DT880 pro replacement grille and stick it in instead

Should I get these as an upgrade from AD700's? I love audio technica lightness and comfort.

Literally does not matter.

The R70x is what I'd consider a nice upgrade unlike the AD900x which is too similar.

Had to order new rectifier diodes for the bridge I blew in my amp's power supply. That's what I get for taking some bad advice on how to change the grounding scheme to decouple some stuff. Ah well, it's only about five bucks worth of parts. It just sucks having to wait most of a week to get them.

You can spend those money for buying an X2, which is plug and play and is absolutely amazing without an amp.
Or you can buy a HD600 or a DT 880 or a AKG 7XX and spend at least twice as much to get an amp to drive them.

It's your choice.

Anyone try these?

I'm sure the sound quality isn't the best, but I already have a nice pair of full size headphones for home and want a wireless iem for portable use. Iems with dome-shaped tips never stay in my ears so these look like a good option.

If you really aren't after pure sound quality and instead convenience then get anything with wing tips like the Bluebuds.

>>
>>51259004
Not quite. It may be easier to get a seal with flange tips, comfort is another thing. Foams usually isolate a bit more, control treble peaks a bit.

>>51258870
Dramatically reduced. The ear kills almost all of it. You still have to worry about the occlusion effect, but that's a completely different thing.
>>
>>51259624

they'll be here in a few days, got em for $350 cause a friend bought them with a bestbuy discount. will update then, though.
>>
>>51259768
i can get them for ~$300usd new

i think i'd prefer to get something like an srs-2170 system but i can't stand leather/pleather pads and the opening in the stax pads makes it look to me like they rest on your ears and aren't large enough to actually get around your ear
>>
>>51259792
Lambda's are actually fucking huge, bigger than you think from looking at the pictures. Omegas are smaller. Both fit around your ear fine.
>>
Any bone conduction headphones apart Aftershokz out there?
>>
>>51259835
yeah looking at some photos of people actually wearing them now i understand how they actually fit

still the leather is a problem and given my location i have to commit to headphones since there's nowhere to really demo them, at least that i'm aware of. i only know one store that mainly sells loudspeakers and vinyl setups that have some hd800s to try which i did
>>
>>51259853
Yeah, electrostatics are super seal dependent so you need leather pads or the bass is fucked. I like leather though so it's never an issue for me.
>>
>>51259875
yeah i figured they were moreso than planars.

that does beg the question of whether focus/jerg style pads would work on estats though but i imagine the lack of that being done by anyone suggests it wouldn't

It'd be nice if they came with a mic that can be turned on or off, but not essential
>>
>>51259883
Probably just people not wanting to cut up $50-$130 ear pads, and the fact you get a nasty midbass hump if you muck up the seal. Might be worth trying on some old Mk-III's or Mk-V's though. That's cheap enough to fool with and they'd probably need new pads anyway because of their age.
>>
>>51259883
>focus/jerg style pads
It was taken from the HE90 pad design, which was an inspiration for the Jerg pads. It seems they reused that concept in the upcoming HE1060.

Maybe.
Some people said they're unlistenable without EQ or tube amp, but that doesn't seem the case for me. Either they're exaggerating or can't handle bright headphones and spouting shits about synergy with HD800.
>>

>HE1060

>>
>>51261472
Maybe the electrostats if that's your thing.
But if you're looking at Stax's higher end models, they come with expensive amp so it isn't worth it for me.
Else, take a look at the planars like HiFiMan or Audeze.
>>
>>51261448
Tubes taming the treble is a meme that needs to die.

HD 800s are bright headphones. In terms of fidelity they are meh for the price. I have them and use a rather precise EQ which I posted to the last thread.
>>
>>51261540
Because muh 25 years of engineering
>>
>>51261561
That's how the synergy meme born in head-fi.
I've had 3 people telling me to get best pairing amp for HD800.

I like bright headphones so even stock HD800 isn't a problem for me, I could even listen to them through my phone. Sure, the retail price is crazy but I got mine used for cheap :^)
>>
>>51261472

HD800 is obsolete with the announcement of the HD800S.
>>
>>51261472

>>
>>51257535
I got mine on clearance for $139 and in very happy especially since winter is coming soon, my ears will be nice and warm walking and listening to music. Sound quality you get a very warm and crisp sound. The bass is sadly lacking so if you gonna get crunk buy some nigga cans. I wouldn't pay anymore than $150 but then again I'm a cheap honkie.
>>
>>51261592
I mean yes the sound is good even stock and yes they work pretty damn well from my phone too but I much prefer them after EQ.

I got them for 840e brand new. Local store had a 30% off of all electronics which made some of the high end stuff particularly good deals. After the HD 800S announcement I probably won't get my money back if I sold them but I haven't regretted getting them at all. After the EQ I can't find a flaw. I don't use my other headphones anymore.

I think synergy predates Head-Fi.

Behringer UCA-202/222. If 60 ohms output impedance is too high, hook up line out to cmoy amp(you can get DC powered versions too). Around 60 - 70 bucks combo.

Been thinking about getting the Fiio X1 as a DAP, but the short 11-hour battery life is a pretty huge turn-off. What are some good, inexpensive DAPs that get the job done well and have a much longer battery life?
(I have no access to any of the Sansa DAPs besides the Sport, nor do I have access to older iPods).

The reverse happens, the driver resonance is underdamped. Scenarios like this are exactly what Beyer makes 600 ohm headphones for.

It's not, we all agree that HD600 has the highest fidelity from 20Hz-20kHz on the diffuse field target curve.

It has decent build and is fully modular. A few broken images doesn't prove that it has shit build. Also consider that the HD600 has been around since 1996.

The driver matching is acceptable and fidelity levels in the bass and treble are very good, sub-40Hz the driver rolls off because it's not of high importance in music playback.
>>
>>51267071
>shit build
>shit driving matching, literally more variance than hd600 compared to hd558
>not balanced at all, only just neutral because they rolled off the treble so much it wouldn't spike from reflections
>sennkeks literally don't know what bass is
not sure why HD600 being around since 1996 is impressive, all they have done over the years is modify the driver a little bit. pretty sure dt880s have been around since 1980 and even then they had better build quality, it has only improved over the revisions they made
