I think, right now, we're in the calm before the storm.
Companies are starting to wise up to adblockers now that they're having significant drops in revenue from them. Youtube Red is the first major example of how they're going to get creative.
Through our collective use of adblockers, we're going to be pushing these websites to come up with creative ways to take our money. Like Viruses adapt and evolve because of vaccines, mainstream websites will start putting more and more content behind a paywall as time goes on.
So, what do you guys think the next steps are going to be? What will be the new ads?
Are we pushing the internet to work more like cable television?
Right now I think we're in the calm before the storm. I'm sure that many websites will be coming up with new services in the very near future.
>>

it will only get worse from here on out, with the combination of mass use of adblockers and data caps

It's ok. Nothing on the internet was really good enough to pay money for anyway.

if you make something worth keeping, people will pay for it
if you can't afford to run a website, you shouldn't be

You entitled little cunts. If websites whine about adblockers, you act all smug, say things like "You shouldn't put up your content for free then" or even "If your content was truly valuable you would make people pay for it". Well that is precisely what is happening now. Aren't you happy yet? Ads piss you off, paywalls piss you off. You're just a bunch of 12 year olds who still don't understand people need to make money in order to survive and provide you your shitty Let's Plays. Fuck you, yes I am mad.

ads are not "blocked"
the ads are just not requested by the browser
>>
>>51250190
on youtube I'd rather have banner ads and shit and not video ads
I want ads on websites like how billboards are
you can look at it if you want, but it doesn't hold you hostage and make you look at it for 15 seconds
>>
>>51250024
Well, they could make less annoying and heavy ads. If all ads were like the 4chan ones, instead of huge gifs or flash shit slowing down my browser, I would uninstall my adblocker.

But of course, that won't happen. Most websites will probably force you to turn off your adblocker to open it.
>>
>>51250190
eh porco dio se sei mad
>>
>>51250024
They ruined everything by making less and less subtle ads. In the early 2000s, most ads were popups or just static banners. It mostly didn't interfere with the browsing experience. Nowadays it's filled with shitty scripts that often compromise the functionality of the website. I tried not too long ago to go without adblock, but it's simply not possible any longer. They deserve the shit they get now.
>>

Back to your containment thread, spic.
>>
>>51250232
>I want ads on websites like how billboards are
like new video billboards on highways mean to distract drivers?
nobody cares what you want they just care about money.
>>
>>51250515
>they just care about money.
That is literally the point of a business.
>>
>>51250190
>Ads piss you off, paywalls piss you off.
Ads piss me off because, as others have pointed out time and time again, they hijack your browser and cripple your browsing experience, among many other things. I've never heard of anyone getting pissed at a paywall. They leave your computer alone, which is the point of adblockers.
>>
>>51250515
Those are probably not illegal because they want to force robot cars.
>>
>been using adblockers for a decade
>suddenly this shit

Fucking normies ruining everything again.

Either way I'm not going back after 10 years, I'll fight their battle.
>>
>>51250024
With NoScript and uBlock they can wise up all they want. They'll always be behind.
>>
>>51250160
>if you make something worth keeping, people will pay for it
Not if they don't know it exists.

You put something behind a pay wall and now you have to ADVERTISE it. So the free sector of the internet of tomorrow will not only have very little worthwhile content, and it will be plastered with ads for paid websites.

>I want ads on websites like how billboards are
That's horrible.
Advertisements ruin the culture a city or town can have.
They ruin the aesthetic of where they're placed. Instead of potentially seeing what the culture of the city has to offer, all you see is advertisements peddled out by the big wigs trying to pocket your money.
Look up São Paulo.

>Year 215X
>doubleclick™ has turned into a genetic based ads generator
>DNAds™ spread like wildfire and become the norm everywhere.
>since i was born i've been flooded with ads that had nothing to do with my lifestyle whatsoever
>i see the ads everywhere on the bioscanner billboards display in my habitat cluster tower.
>everytime i get on my iCar™ I'm forced to see on the car RetinaSkin™ images of NeoOnaHoles™ and discounts at the WeeaboDetox Center.
>If i look away from the ads, the iCar™ wont move until i say out loud "I Might Consider It" or "Thank You for your Offer"
>iCar will drive at 30mph because my peasant eyes can't see past 30fps
>if i buy a product from AmazonRNA™ my car will speed up to 50fps so i have to buy a bunch of shit everyday to arrive in time to my "privileged white male refugee" job
>The worst part of this is that the ads are generated because of the early biodata of my grandfather stored in our God's database (G__gl_, im not allowed to say our god name's in vain)
>All the ads i get to see are generated based on my DNA because i might like them, according to god.
>Apparently grandpa used to browse a lot a website that was related in some way to ancient japanese culture nowadays banned and taboo because of their misogynistic views against superior WomanXX™, which are capable of autoreproduce and don't need men to perpetuate the species.
>I have to attend special flash school to erase any hint of "atractiveness" i might found in WomenXX™ or any subvariant, every time i have to spend an hour in flash school for each second i have an erection.
>No friends because they always laugh of my DNAds in my car, because i'm too poor to afford premiun iCar™ subscription that just lets Pewdiepie IV™ sell me directly a bundle of "lets play" videos to put on autoplay while the iCar™ drives me around.
>Can't even kill myself because i didn't pay for the premiun LifeSoftware™ that included no penalty ragequits.

I now many americans won't learn anything but English. Still, if you don't know what are romance languages, go take that class again.
>>
>>51250348
This. I'm actually one of the "I'm ok with ads, nothing is free" crowd but I have noticed that ads have been getting more and more intrusive which has pushed me to consider adblock. Then again most of /g/ were sperging about ads from day one.

Oh boo hoo. Clearly you're on the cut and butthurt. Get over it. The internet worked just fine before commercialism raped it. I've got no problem with paywalls. I even pay for my email address to not be datamined.

>>51250735
And what is there to even go back to? Ads and tracking beacons completely hijack your browser at this point.

Let me see if I get this

>companies pay "content creators" to advertise because they want potential buyers and these "creators" have a huge fan base they got by offering free stuff
>these ads are annoying and literally malware, so people block them. People still share and support the "content creator" stuff for free because they're getting their entertainment free, so it's an ok deal.
>"creators" still whine and blame the people because they want "free stuff", yet they don't even ask for permission to sell their "views" to advertising companies
>now "creators" want people to pay for their "content" because it's getting harder to sell ads. They still expect people to share and become "fans" for them for free, until they find another way to sell their "views" to advertising companies.
>Again, if the "creators" fail at running a successful business it's the people's fault because they want "free" stuff.

I don't mind ads. I use adblockers for security, like every sane person should do.

It's not about "stealing content from the poor poor producers", it's keeping your system from being compromised.
