There's no solution other than re-encoding to a lower quality. That would make the files smaller. In case you have lots of files using a worse codec (not h264) you can re-encode those with similar quality and probably still get somewhat smaller files, but that's unlikely. Pretty much fucking everything is h264.
Following that train of thought, h265 is supposed to require a lower bitrate for the same subjective quality as h264, so maybe convert to that (I'm not sure what tools exist and in what state they are since it's fairly new and not in common use).
