has it ever crossed your mind that your computer and everything on your screen was just the by product of a bunch of transistors and diodes performing boolean functions?

the scale of it all is hurting my brain.

Has it ever crossed your mind that everything include your own existence were just a bunch of atoms and molecules stitched together?
>>
>>47639696

Yes. It's called abstraction, and you think at whatever level is appropriate for what you want to do.

If you're studying CS or CE you will learn how to think at several levels of abstraction.

DECs architectures were optimized manually. They were fastest in their times because of that.

Of course i'm not arguing about whether optimizing haslel manually is a good idea or not. Just a fun fact.

Why would anybody represent an ALU in basic logic gates? That's literally pointless.
>>
Yes it has. That's one reason why I like messing with simpler computer systems, either modern embedded microcontrollers or vintage computers, because it enables one to get a little bit closer to that level.
But in computing you'll never get down to the transistor level, because it's just too complicated, too much to hold in your head. Machine code is pretty close, though.
>>
>>47642859

Why would anyone represent a whole CPU in basic logic gates, except to give people nausea ?
CS is the art of abstraction, everything are just electrons following Maxwell's equations...

I was stuck thinking about that just yesterday. And I was looking at microscope images of processors and making numbers in my head about the cheer number of complex calculations needed just to paint a few pixels black from me writing this sentence.

Can this be a logisim thread?

I made my first turing complete cpu the other day, it basically implements brainfuck, so its inefficient as fuck but it werks, I chose to do so because of the simplicity given it was my first attempt, also its really cool to be able to just grab brainfuck source from the web or wherever, chuck it into a hex converter and run it
>>
The brain. How the fuck does it work?

I mean we know how computers work. As of today we could program computers to do some shit and react to it based on a program. It could be similar to a sentient life form but it is still deterministic.

Supposing there is no magic involved in the brain, shouldn't we have deterministic mechanisms that tell us what we do even though we think it's our own will?

Fuck my brain hurts

Its an illusion, just like everything else, its the most functional and effective way for your brain to perform abstract and high-level decision making, I've always thought consciousness was just like a shell, a high-level interface to the real inner workings
>>
>>47639885

>>
>>47639855
tfw all of those gates are made up of a varying amount of transistors and some passive parts here and there
>>
>>47639874
look up transistor switches. your computer is just millions or more like billions of transistors (mosfets) switching on and off at huge clock speeds like at 3ghz in a 3ghz cpu
