Currently have a 2009 MBP 13" that still works pretty great for what it is, but is definitely starting to show its age.

I recently saw a x220 in person, and really liked the form factor, and the fact that it has a "real" keyboard. The T series also look like really nice machines.

Just how "bad" are the NEW keyboards? Is buying a brand new Lenovo really as bad as people make it out to be? I'm drawn to the old ones anyways, just because of muh keyboard, and I doubt I could really afford a brand new machine.

I do however, like the idea of buying a brand new machine that will last me as long as the MBP has...

Sorry, more of a blog post than anything else.
>>
>>47618092
The new keyboards are ok, don't believe the hivemind. Try one for yourself and form your own opinion.
>>
>>47618092
The keyboards are very good. People just see the meme and repost it.
>>
>>47618092
the new keyboards are very good and I like them better than the old ones.

as laptop keyboard they're the best you can get, just enough travel time to have a good feeling/feed back, I prefer them over the apple keyboards.

I would recomend you get a T450s since it offers a small portable formfactor and a 1080p IPS display for around $1000.
>>
>>47618114

I went to the local bestbuy to check out their lenovo section, and unfortunately, all they had were the Yogas, X-series, and other tablet tops. To be honest, I was extremely underwhelmed by what I saw, but i'm still reserving judgment on the T-series. Just can't seem to find any shops that actually carry them.
>>
>>47618092

The new keyboards aren't bad, but the older keyboards were top-flight. I'd say the X220 keys are on par with Mac scissor-switches, and the new lenovo keys are still great, but below both.
>>
>>47618092
I went from a 2014 13' MBP to a T430. The new keyboard is awesome.

X1 carbon (Gen 3) and T-series keyboards are pretty much the same. However those keyboards are not the same as the *#30 series because the newer ones don't have dedicated volume keys.

Hello lovelies, I recently bought a 3 cell ultrabay battery for my T400. When I plugged it in, everything seemed great, started at 100% capacity, etc, etc

My friend tried to replace the thermal paste on his t420 and he is getting thermal sensing issues. It doesn't look like he damaged the cpu or gpu die.

The keyboard thing is much worse for longtime thinkpad users than for people new to them since they fucked with the layout. I prefer the old style to the new chiclet one as well but that is more personal preference (and coming from a Mac it will be more familiar).

A while back somebody was asking about the purpose of/how to get drivers for this little stylus switch here. At first I wasn't sure such a thing existed, but while opening up my laptop to stop the rattling CMOS battery, I noticed it. Anyone have any ideas what it's supposed to be for?

On my x230t the cable reads Wistron Caramel S/W Cable, P/N45N3789, the date, and some other numbers. I found a motherboard diagram from Wistron but I can't find any node mentioning this switch.
>>
>>47621429
I could have gotten it for $70.
>>
>>47621584
Not where I live though.
>>
>>47621566
That's rather interesting. I'd expect that it's related to the machine detecting when the stylus is removed from its silo. I don't remember if the lenovo windows 7 installs had drivers which detected whether the pen was removed and opened some menus accordingly. Might have to check. There was the tablet mode detection.
>>
>>47621713
Yeah that's the obvious conclusion but I can't remember if there was any implementation. I only have used this machine with Windows 8 so I don't know if there was anything missing from 7. Tablet detection is more likely in the hinge or wherever, and would only rotate the screen. The pen functionality is always active and has no drawbacks that I can think of but also makes sense if someone wants to use a third party stylus.

Just bought a refurbished T410s:
>8 GB RAM
>i5 Core M 520 @ 2.40 GHz 2.40 GHz
>64-bit

This seemed sufficient for daily web browsing, but it's really lagging. Simple things like resizing the browser window are sometimes really laggy. I'm just running Firefox now and the RAM is at 6.20 GB.

I've read online reviews for reburbished Thinkpads and a few people mentioned having to re-apply thermal paste. I don't think a heat issue would increase RAM or processor load.

Is this processor just shitty? My tower PC has 4GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo Q2800 and it runs better than this.

f*cking lenovo translations(i'm using spanish Wangblows). Instead of "maximum CPU speed" it says literally "System Performance"

Lowest -> CPU will stay at minimal CPU speed
Balanced -> CPU will scale across its frequency range(No turbo boost)
Turbo -> same as Balanced but with turbo boost
Maximum turbo -> maximum turbo boost freq(if temps allow it)

You can get finer control by using the windows power plan advanced settings

Drop gaps, hide bars, make fonts smaller and use bitmap fonts. Cry yourself to sleep as you realize your laptop has 1280x800 resolution.

Basically use your screen efficiently and update to something with FHD or higher resolution when it's reasonable to do it. Your UI's appearance and usable density of stuff onscreen benefits tremendously from 1440p or 3k or 4k, even if people seem to think it's a waste on a laptop.

Rubbing alcohol to get the residue off. It might be just that the paint has faded on all the thinkpad except the part that was under the sticker. If this is the case then you should put the thinkpad under a tanning bed for 2-3 hours and it should get the color out.

The ultrabay is the gem that makes this thing somewhat worthy.

not rare, just an uncommon expensive item at the time it was released.

I take it it's dependant on the specific battery batch right? I think I have a couple of dead ones stashed away which might work

I got lucky by getting a nearly top of the line, gently abused T43p.

I have eOS on there, I don't use it for anything intensive, other then webbrowsing/dicking around, battery life lasts about 3 hours, I play youtube videos via minitube, it plays OK, just choppy, Pentium M is dying on webpages, shit sucks, also I got crappy speakers on my unit, they are blown or something, can't raise it to any decent decibels. But teh IPS screen.

Given it is much heavier/bigger than my X61T, I don't use it much, though I'll take it if I want better/cleaner screen estate than my X300.
