>>
>>47603617
I have something called "friends" that I interact with in "real life." It's a new thing you probably haven't heard of. I talk with thin "in person" and "go out for lunch" with them. The slang is weird, but I can get you in contact with them for verification. They use things called "phones" which have "phone numbers" which you can use to either "call or text" them.

>>
>>47603703
Usually it's the opposite. Anyone who doesn't have a Facebook is assumed to not have friends by those with them. I wrote that sarcastically because the "job interviewer" is asking for ridiculous amounts of privacy invasion.
>>
>>47603718

I got asked FB login creds when I got interviewed by Lockheed. I looked at the woman, laughed, asked if she was serious and just walked out.

The pay was decent but I ain't fucking working for a company that does that shit.

>>

You're right. Luckily, I'm posting as an anonymouse user on a Mongolian tapestry board where I can say things sarcastically without repercussion. Like this:

>>
Everyone makes fun of /r9k/ but they're sort of right. "Normies" are slowly but surely trying to exterminate all non-normies. Which involved forcing them out of employment then gathering them up in a big truck and dumping them off a cliff.
>>
>>47604068
It's because the government doesn't need social website information to give you a job. They've been giving out jobs for decades before this shit took root into our society. They'll just run a regular background check on you and maybe interview your family and friends.

I don't have a facebook as it's inferior to its competitors.
>>
>>47604047
Wouldn't handing out your password be rather redundant for security clearance? At least here it's the "secret" police that hands those out, and they don't really need your password to know everything you're writing on the internet
>>
>>47603547
Surely this violates Facebook's ToS. Then you would be in breach of certain covenants with Facebook to do so. Even if your state doesn't have privacy employment laws, you could still say that would be breaking the law.

"Did you clear this interview question with your general counsel?"
>>
>>47603718
I had a teacher in middle school who said (during the introduction at the beginning of the year) that he used to say that there were no stupid questions, but that one day a student asked "Can you buy me some beer?". So now he doesn't say that there is no such thing as stupid questions.

Eh not really, it's a misconception that no one uses Facebook. People USE Facebook to like things but people don't post statuses very often nor is there an incentive to constantly upload nonprofile pics when there's Instagram/tumblr for that.

Old people actually like and comment on every page and make their own statuses, but college age kids like me use Facebook because of fb messenger and the constant stream of events happening

I've been to perhaps 30 or so interviews the last four years, with various recruiters, web firms, Java/C# consultancy companies etc, and they've never asked me about social media in the interview. Ever. I've even interviewed for MS (on location) and Google (3 phone interviews), they never ask about this stuff

Having a LinkedIn however has *helped* me get an interview, since it appears that recruiters, HR and head hunters are trawling it in order to find potential candidates.

This whole "it says here that you don't have a facebook" and "please give me all your passwords" thing is nothing but a /g/ meme.

This tactic works more often than you would think. They key to the interview is to act like you don't even want the job and to keep checkin your watch while the interviewer is talking to you.
>>
>>47606476
There's this new thing called mass text messages that let you send messages to multiple people to make it easy to plan shit.
>>
>>47610794
Unless you have an extremely good resume and the place you are applying for is desperate for someone of your qualifications, playing hard to get is the dumbest shit you could ever do.
>>
>>47610794
That just tells the interviewer that you're uninterested in this job and would not be a good fit. If you're not even interested in the job, it's quite likely you'll do something like leave after a month after hiring.
>>
>That's not happening, sorry to have wasted your time
>>
>>47610820
yeah playing hard to get is kinda stupid but then again so is showing your desperation to get hired
>>
>>47610794

This. You also have to be desirable, though.

I've had people flat-out tell me that there is no room for negotiating salary. This happened in the current job that I have - the offer was $64k.

I was offered the job, but declined saying, "Honestly, it sounds like a fantastic position, but because of the changes I'd have to make in my life, the salary just isn't worth it at this point."

I got a call later in the day offering me $73k. I accepted.

since you're doing it for a hobby anyway you may as well try to get a bidness out of it
>>
>tfw /g/ made me care more about internet security

Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss.

>Now if you'd just hand over your facebook password for a second so we can confirm you're the right fit...
..but, I don't have a 'Facebook' account, or an account on any other so-called 'social media', since they're a huge waste of time and an invasion of my privacy. You don't actually advocate such things at this company, do you? I may have made a mistake applying here.
>>
>>47610962
You waste just as much time on an anonymous anime imageboard where porn, gore and racism run rampant.

What do you think the normies would think of you?
>>
>>47610994
Nah. I got a comfy job already and am known by HR people.
Been getting my kicks out of project proposal meetings.
>>
>>47610962

honestly, if someone between the ages of 18 and 35 tells me that he doesnt have a facebook, i'm gonna think that he's either lying or a nofriends weirdo that faps to animu, and i won't want to hire him. i'd never ask anyone for their password though
>>
>>47611011
I actually only use this at work when the office is empty, so I don't think it's that much of a time sucker
>>47611023
Yeah, I understand, it's just irritating. I would give someone my public profile, but to hand over my private messages and stuff? That's just unacceptable.
>>
>>47611023
And that's exactly the fucking problem nowadays. An account on a social site shouldn't be the absolute, definitive line between someone well adjusted and someone who is not. That's a part of what the job interview is supposed to show the interviewer, not the availability of an account on the internet.
>>
>>47611112
If anything no Facebook should be a good thing.
It means you're not going to spend time at work checking it and waste company time
>>
>>47610962
>>I hate the fact that not having a facebook sends that message
It only sends that message to shallow fucks who, for whatever reason, think that it's impossible to have a great friendship without some gigantic corporation facilitating your communication.
>>
>>47611493
And those are not the type you want in HR or hiring
>>
>>47603547
>>47603585

What if I don't have a facebook?
>>
>>47603731
>>they wont realise this until I've left the interview

Why not just give them the wrong password in the first place? The end result is the same. They wont be able to get into your account.
>>
I had a facebook about 10 years ago, at a huge state university. I fucked a few bitches from it in the dorms. Then a few years later my mom and dad and everyone else wanted to friend me and get on it. I hopped off about 5 years ago, and never looked back.

Its like myspace - absolutely no point once you get older. Shameful, really. If you're not in my phone as a contact, then you're nothing to me or any other grown up. Theres a big difference between on-the-computer contacts and in-the-phone contacts. One is for little girls, the other is for men.

yea, if you have the resume to back that up
you don't even need to perform well on the interview if you have a good resume.

Depends. For instance, I live in a country where most people would probably ask you exactly how you are supposed to eat it when you mention 4chan.

In other parts, you run a chance of either people not giving a shit, or (the most likely outcome) be seen as some kind of social outcast who hacks webpages for a living and kills puppies in his free time, because that's the understanding that normalfags have of 4chan.

Probably. I work for a state-funded institution and occasionally end up on selection committees. We're explicitly forbidden from asking that sort of thing.

Facebook is not only a social network, it is THE social network. how can it be a social network if it's not social?
>>
>>47619296
Social network is one of those inherently contradictory phrases, like civil war or military intelligence.

I'm sorry. My Facebook account got deactivated because my last employer had my password and Facebook detected a violation of the terms of service.
