Better than Windows 8.1 functionality wise, worst aesthetic design by far.

Meh... I hated 8 and 8.1. Still don't like 10 much either although the UI is better than 8. Its the general direction microsoft are going in that im not keen on.

Im gonna move to linux when I buy a 1TB SSD, gonna have to get an nvidia card as well because apparently AMD a shit on linux.

Anybody know what is up with the Spartan browser?
>>

A very very beta browser which is missing some very basic functionality and options.
>>
>>47542865

remember its still in beta
>>

Apparantly still has those god awful file permission setups that breaks almost anything needing access to files

Is the classic theme still there or is it gone?
>>
>>47542791
Why not just run 2 500gb in raid 0? I got 2 120s on my laptop and the read and write are 300gb/s. It's cheaper too, twice the speed.

I'm planning this too. I'm going to dual boot Xubuntu LTS and Win7 with Xubuntu being the primary.

I have a 500gb hard drive right now but I need 1TB of space in total, new games are getting pretty big.

This may upset some of the MS Fanboys/Shills, but I have not even remotely liked Windows since the XP/2003 versions NT 5.1 and 5.2 and only then after years of updates and service packs fixed their issues. Since Vista and newer it's all been asinine and egregious BS stacked on-top of itself with little to nothing new that benefited the end users.
>>
>>47543012
Linux is doing the same thing though. More and more distros keep popping up and they're just minor tweaks of the last one they made.
>>
>>47542987
2x 500 = 1000gb

>>47542997
Yes two hard drives working as one is twice the read and write speed. Fucking YouTube it.
Before was around 130-150gbs read and write. Now just over 300gbs.

Some actual improvements and features for the first time since XP. Too bad people have autism attacks about squares and no aero which somehow people can't live without these days despite being considered the worst thing in the world when it was first released.
I just want to see some real application of DX12. Maybe we can finally stop optimizing games for an 8 year old OS. I mean just look at BF4, 8.1 users get way better FPS.
All the little things like smart window manager, integrated dark themes, and virtual desktops are nice.
>>
>>47543145

Raid 0 also improves performance. Raid 1 has the two drives store copies of the data and probably is the fastest (at reading, at least), but Raid 0 uses striping and also improves performance.
>>
>>47543226

Literally the only thing I prefer about Windows 7 over XP is the Aero Snap feature. The rest of it was utterly useless to me. The new design was better than XP's Fisher Price shit, but I just used the classic themes in XP anyway. Of course, the improvements under the hood were nice, but they aren't really user-visible.

I would have liked an updated XP much more than a new UI.
>>
I really like it a lot. The icons suck, but everything else has really come together nicely in the latest builds. Seems to still be unstable though, bit concerning with it close to the release window. 8 was rock solid at this point in it's development cycle.
>>
>>47543284

It's the first windows where they didn't even try to hide the keylogger. Microsoft account can be closed without warning or reason and all your files are gone. CPU can be remotely turned off. Computer can be remotely turned on if it's not unplugged (e.g. Laptop).

It's a test flight, and you're given lots of warnings about this.

> Microsoft account can be closed without warning or reason and all your files are gone

>>
>>47543414

>What is... no.

That one's kind of true. I have an Outlook account for email and Microsoft's policies really piss me off. They locked me out of my email without warning because someone was supposedly trying to get in, then gladly reset my password after I gave them my date of birth and the subject lines and recipients of a few recent emails I sent. You know, so I could reset my password *and so could any of my friends who I'd recently had email exchanges with*.

I thought it was appalling, especially since I deliberately avoid all sorts of security questions like that because I don't think they're secure.
>>
>>47543452
The agreement to test it on developers is just for beta.
The code that does this will ship.
>>
>>47543513
No, it won't.
>>
>>47543505
Locking your account because someone is trying to break into it? Alright, I'll give you that. But deleting everything without warning doesn't happen.
>>
>>47543529
Yeah, it definitely will.
But don't worry, the agreement will not say anything about it, so MS will not use it. Right?
>>
>>47543568
Again, no, it won't.

You should really check your sources.
>>
>>47543611
Just screen shot the thread and rub it in everyone's face once it gets released.
>>
>>47543550

You're right, but it may have the same effect. Windows 10 has some sort of cloud storage, right? If your account gets locked I doubt you could access it.

And if they keep their same absurd password reset policy I think someone else could hijack your account pretty easily.
>>
>>47543767
So don't use a live account. It's not required, unless you want to use apps. And in that regard, is no different the Android or Apple.

Running it in a VM and I have to say the interface is beautiful. Animations and transitions are porn. The start menu and icons leave something to be desired, but with a few minor tweaks even they can be superb. Spartan is also looking like it's going to be an excellent successor to IE. With these and all of the under-the-hood improvements, it'll be hard for Windows 10 to be anything but a smashing success.

Only somewhat-modern Apple OS I've tried was OS X 10.1 or something. >Also, it can all be turned off

But that's wrong. Please look carefully at the provided pic, which includes screenshots of what happens when you try to turn it off.

You get the following:

"We'll continue to use the info anonymously to improve our products, but it will no longer be used to help your PC and Cortana get to know you."

So you are wrong, it cannot be turned off. You can only stop Cortana using it. Still gets collected and sent back to Microsoft.
>>
>>47546992
Either pull the source behind it, or pull a packet capture, and tell me what PII data gets sent back...

Also, your pic shows Windows 10. This is test flight, remember? Microsoft was very direct that the test and preview flights will collect data. You get a big fucking warning when you go to download it.

Wait until the code goes gold / RTM.

> zOMG Micro$suck botnet NSA cuck...

Microsoft right now, as I type this, actively fighting a warrant to collect data from a US citizen on a Dublin mail server, with the argument that the US governments reach does not extend beyond it's borders.

If you wana run Linux (GNU+Linux), MacOS, or BSD, that's fine. But if you're going to try and argue something, at least have an idea what you're talking about.

http://i.4cdn.org/g/1429170467350.png

>Microsoft was very direct that the test and preview flights will collect data.
Yes, that much is absolutely true. But what the pic I've posted clearly shows is that this is core functionality of Cortana, which is the core of the new Search tool for Windows 10, so I think if you're expecting Cortana to suddenly STOP collecting all of the info listed when Windows 10 gets released officially, you're kidding yourself.

Let's go over the list of info Cortana collects again: (Reminder, this info comes direct from the Windows 10 Settings app and Cortana itself)

>- Your identity (Microsoft account sign-in)
>- Your Location
>- Your contacts (This matters even more for mobile devices)
>- Your "speech pattern" (Forensic voiceprint?)
>- Your "handwriting pattern" (Forensic handwriting sample?)
>- The contents of your emails AND text messages (4th amendment?)
>- Entire browser history
>- Local search history
>- Content of your calendar
>- Your entire "typing history" (But it's totally NOT a keylogger, right?)
