Just reading the first sentence of this makes it feel like I'm witnessing a disgusting Reddit-tier meme image of a person who haphazardly selfies themself making strained expressions then tacks them into a single image and tries to tell a shitty story.
Go fuck yourself.
Get out of this board.
Nice eBlog.
Saged.

Mad little cuck is mad
Got thinkpad Yoga (I know it's not real thinkpad). Resisted for 24 hours. After the 24 hours, I break down and installed Gentoo.
I don't know what happened to me. I just had to do it. Lookie lookie, pretty wallpaper.

nice desktop anon, I'm just starting with gentoo
still very lost but it's intriguing as fuck
what are the essential thinks I should learn to feel comfortable handling the packages on the system I still need to read a bit about use flags.
Be me. try almost every drug besides heroin. try heroin. never touch any other drug again.

You didn't get addicted?
Oh look, another druggie thread. So hip and crazy and edgy. You're coolness personified.
>>47342826

Fucking casual
Someone help me. I have a comfy Fedora install but I'm having trouble stopping myself from booting up my favorite live distro and installing Gentoo.
>>47344458
cry to someone who cares
>Shit tier xfce theme
>Can't even get X working
>Won't even try heroin
whoever hasn't installed gentoo doesn't really belong on /g/ amirite?
>>47344514
But he did get X working.
>>47344543
I only installed it in a VM because I'm a casual. Jokes on me though, it made the installation process take 1000000x longer.
I installed Gentoo without the handbook, am I the king of /g/ or something?
>>47344646
>am I the king of /g/ or something?
There is only one kin/g/ here
>>47344646
The first time?
>>47344565
I've never got X to work from a minimal installation. I don't consider myself a real member of the /g/ secret clubhouse.
In time I will.

were you guys successful getting the trackpoint buttons to work? I have the s1 yoga which has the trackpoint buttons merged with the trackpad, not sure if you guys have the second generation
I installed gentoo but I can't get it to boot with lilo or grub2. It keeps saying it cannot mount the root partition even though I have it set in fstab.
Are there any good stackoverflow threads or decent faqs on plain old booting? I can get in by booting from USB and chrooting but damn...it's frustrating. I guess I could try grub1 next since it's not as cryptic.
>>47345090
Are you using an initrd? Personally I would try booting into a shell and mounting the disks manually then using switch_root, but I don't really know what the fuck I'm doing.
>>47345090
grub 2 is not cryptic it is used for MBR
make sure you're not installing it over a GPT partition, if you have a GPT partition table it's a bit trickier you have to use either gumiboot or refind

you live with your parents? Jesus

>I don't really know what the fuck I'm doing.
Same here. I do have an unusual setup in that there's an IDE drive as primary and a sata drive as secondary and the IDE drive is a data drive currently while the SATA was made a boot drive. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
maybe my MBR should be on a USB?

I had the same problem with slackware, had to constantly boot from USB and use that "in a pinch you can..." option. The gentoo usb doesn't have one like that. But I hate slackware because the packages are just ughhh. I don't want to go ubuntu or debian, was thinking of finally trying out gentoo since it comes so highly recommended and the community is so well organised and well informed with such nice, neat wikis.
