So, why do people hate Opera aside from being closed source and the low market share?

After 2 years of Chrome (and randomly switching to firefox to see if it's appealing at all, which it isn't for me as of now), I'm trying Opera, which is pretty similar to Chrome with built in stuff. What's exactly so bad about it?

Disgusting.
>>
>>47106741
It was the best.

Then they made it a chrome skin.

Now it's akin

of a bin

Look, I can understand that. I'm just saying because some people still don't care about it being closed source but still find it flawed.

>>47106752
I have to say, ever since Opera 11 it was constantly crashing for me. Sure it was good, but it wasn't pleasant to have more than 10 crashes in a single day, every day.

Opera 12 was the best.
There is no test
All the rest are in jest
Just forget the rest.

But

But

But it crashed man

Last time I tried it it was a resource hog, just like Chrome. And it didn't have a lot of the extensions I need.

Then Chrome doesnt have them

Brave. Eventually I fully switched to FF because too many sites were broken as shit

it's the best browser on Android

Up until around 2005 it was the best browser you could get The "click rocker" feature to navigate back and forth between pages is something that all browsers should have adopted

You shouldn't be using Opera to go online. It hasn't been updated in 2 years.
>>

It's not opera anymore, just a chrome skin. Opera died with 12.XX.

I'm using FF 28, should I update?

I wonder if this still works.

Opera is rarely people's first or even second browser so people never end up getting attached to it

Generally people start with IE then realise it's dogshit and the only alternatives seem to be Chrome and Firefox so you just pick a side

You had me there anon.

I like it on mobile. That gets updated. Plus it has an option to not load images.

Opera used to be the most featureful browser with capabilities you can't even get with addons in other browsers today. (I've tried, and I am about 60%-ish of the way there with Firefox.)

Seriously, the featureset it had was absolutely massive, and the integration between everything worked flawlessly. You could do pretty much anything that involved any combination of its features nearly instantly. And despite this, somehow, Opera was still tiny... The installer for the browser (Not a download shim) was only ~15MB and included everything.

It went from that to a sizable shitty Chrome reskin where you could not even bookmark pages in a single release.

It was terrible. If I wanted Chrome, I'd use Chrome.

I am not the only one who thought this either... Most people who used Opera before this absolutely hated it, and now Opera is not a very well-liked browser except for by people who want a Chrome-like browser without Chrome's additional functionality.

The new Opera was so bad that the former developers (Many of them quit because of the corporate coup d'etat) decided to start making another browser: Vivaldi; which, while another Blink-based browser -- aims to have the featureset of what Opera used to be before it lost its way.

That is why a lot of people hate Opera.
