Cyberpunk books/movies recommendations for someone who's new to the genre?

I ultimately want to make a cyberpunk-themed kind of VN, but I don't know much about cyberpunk culture.

I've got two EVGA Gtx 670 FTW in an SLI configuration and both with Arctic Accelero Mono Plus coolers on them. The first two weeks they were running cooler than the stock coolers but now the main card is reaching temps of 85° and the secondary is about 10° cooler. The coolers are big so do you guys think it would be an issue of not enough space between the cards to allow adequate cooling?

How hard is it to add support for a new version of Dx to a game? What's usually involved? (Feel free to simplify)

e.g. a game is developed in dx9 or 10 and Dx12 is coming, what would it take for the devs to add support for it?

>>
>>46974662
Devs first have to read and understand everything about dx12. Everything that was improved

Then recode huge chunks of the code to be able to use those improvements.

About 25% or more of the work they did coding it in the first place.
>>
>>46974694
So essentially anyone who asks for devs to add support for a new Dx edition is delussional?
>>
>>46974757
I think yeah they are. There is a possibility a dev decide to optimize 10% of the code to shut them up.

Which game are you talking about?

What are my options for re-installing Windows 7 without having access to the recovery discs? I tried downloading the ISOs from Microsoft but they said my product key isn't supported because "The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device." Guild Wars 2, specifically. They released it in 2012 with Dx9 which was pretty bad buht it's an MMO so I can see why they'd want it to be compatible with older systems. It's getting an expac soon so people are talking about getting Dx11 or 12.

On second thought, how hard is it to allow for multiple Dx versions if you build from the ground up with that i. Mi d? Do you have to essentially do the code once for each version of Dx or is it easier?

I tried looking a lot of this up but I couldn't find anything.
>>
>>46974234
Cyberpunk is kind of vague actually. Anything involving future weapons and/or androids gets thrown together as cyberpunk. Might want to describe more of what you are looking for. Regardless, there are the obvious ones like Blade Runner, Matrix, and Terminator/Total Recall for films.
I haven't read enough cyberpunk books to advice anymore than just googling a list. I'd assume that would work out fine though. In cult-following genres, usually the biggest hits are also the best.
I'd also advice checking out anime/manga like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Ergo Proxy.

>>46974511
Only slightly more than a non-vertical screen. They are just normal screens that allow you to tilt them to 90 degrees.

>>46974647
Could be the thermal paste. Might just be bad airflow through the case. Maybe need new case fans.

My question isn't very /g/ related. I've been going on and off to community college for the past 4/5 years to get an associate's degree. Rest of the time has been self-studying and just general NEET stuff. Never had a job or completed any actual projects or anything.
I've got a good gpa and good act scores, but don't have jack shit to write on the application essays to transfer. Do I make shit up, describe some of the stuff I've been doing on my own time, or just keep the essay incredibly short?

I'm not looking for a fancy screen, just enough to read porn vertically because sometimes i cant read what im fapping to because my actual screen is too small (18.5" 1366x768 HP all in one screen) and when i tried to rotate it manually to fap, i managed to damage the HDD from a 6cm fall.
>>
>>46974948
Since it is an MMO they may want to improve on it.

DX12 is windows 10 exclusive so I doubt it will be a priority for them.

It is easier to code from scratch allowing multiple dx versions.
>>
>>46974995
Yeah I'd at least like Dx11 but I doubt we'll see it.

Optimization isn't exactly the dev's strong suit.

So I think I might be getting a new phone tomorrow.

I want something with an sd card slot(not necessarily a deal breaker if it doesn't have one), runs stock android (preferably something recent. I'm running Jellybean right now), and isn't super huge (current screen is 4.65", so around there)

What do I get /g/?

Whatever will look good at 1080p, matte (unless there's a difference in image quality between the two), 1920x1080 or 1200

Okay. All I can say is the pre-installed version 'should' be tied to the motherboard.

You don't really have any limiting factors there. Do you (plan to) do anything in particular with your phone?

>>46975075
Most people say around 23' for 1080p. Glossy should have better colors (particularly blacks should be blacker), and there's also the question of if you want ips or not. You won't have any trouble at all finding one in your price range.

It is hopefully audio files, yes. I'm less concerned about the files (if they do in fact exist, I can easily scan them) than I am about the website. I haven't visited it yet, but if it's full of ads and fake links, and I happen to click the wrong one or worse, I'd like to be prepared.

>>46974836
I almost missed this post, sorry. I'll give that a shot, thank you.
>>
>>46974595
yes it would, but with 4 gigs of RAM, not noticeably. The only reason would be that Lion (and so Mountain Lion) was made with faster processors in mind. Having said that it isn't really an issue.

What I would mentions is some pros would be support for iCloud and such, 90 days of software support (they will not help you revert its a one way street in apples eyes), and some cons are you will lose support for Rosetta, so if he has anything that is Power-PC only, he might as well throw it in the trash.

TLDR; ittle run fine but not as fast as a machine with Mountain Lion pre-installed if you bought it today (duh) and he wont be able to use Rosetta to run Power-PC programs if he upgrades
>>
>>46975177
Aside from the return/dead-pixel policies, I wouldn't worry about the brand. Just make sure there aren't any specs that they aren't gimping on. You can go as cheap as something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0098Y77U0/?tag=pcpapi-20

I wouldn't, just because I personally like isp and glossy. Some people want adjustable stands and stuff too.

Or maybe you think it really matters and want the lowest response time you can get something like:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HSKSMI/?tag=pcpapi-20

I'd just look through this and see if there is anything you like in particular:

So, I have some weird ass fucking AOC "Nspire" N22, a monitor I can find almost nothing about besides on a site called 'fixya'. I bought it from a thrift shop, and I'm having a weird problem: The contrast is stuck at 255 and won't let me change anything. I tried getting a program called "Soft MCCS" to try to reset it back to factory settings, but I'm still left with a blinding contrast and I can't find a resource for support or even a user manual online. wat do?
>>
>>46975186
anon, the entire point of diminishing returns is that from the start you get diminishing returns.

if FLAC is a 1:1 ratio of size to quality, what ratio would you be fine with?
>>
>>46975186
Just fiddle with the quality until you start to notice.

avconv -i input.flac -acodec libvorbis -aq [up to 100] output.ogg

I think the max bitrate is 500 or something, you probably won't need that much. Though even at max, the file size will be much smaller.

Why are you doing this, anyway, anon?

Can I use a GoPro as a webcam? It runs Linux/Busybox, has wifi, and I can get a shell on it. I'm not sure what kind of access Linux has to the camera, though. Linux is actually running on an RTOS, and I think the RTOS operates the camera. Linux is basically just there to provide a wireless network and a web interface for the phone app to connect to. I would be interested in using it as a webcam for my desktop, which also runs Linux, if I could.

i've been using newsgroups for the last 4 years and i'm starting think i might just make the switch to torrents. the most important thing to me has always been television shows since i cut the cord a while back. i like that i can saturate my 250Mbit connection without having to wait for seeds and also i've never had any issues with trackers or getting letters from my isp.

is it really safer to stick with newsgroups?

Hey /g/

Networking illiterate here. My internet just tanked on me. Posting using my 4g phone.

What are the basic steps to figuring out whats wrong? I already tried powering down my router/modem (its an all in one from cumcast) and that didnt do the trick.

Since thats the only thing I know how to do when it comes to troubleshooting an Internet connection, im pretty lost as to what to do next
>>
I want to use my windows laptop to ssh into my linux desktop to play tracks off of my ncmpcpp library while on the move, how do I go about doing this?
>>
>>46977300
It can fit a rad on the top so yeah
>>
>>46977639
If you're using wireless, try plugging in instead. If that doesn't work, it's either straight busted or a problem on Comcast's end.
>>
>>46977694
Its wired

I doubt its busted. I just want to know if there is a way to tell if its comcast or not
>>
>>46977711
Go and call comcast to find out. If it's their problem then all is good. But if they don't then is time to panic.
>>
>>46977639
You are a paying comcast customer, correct? Just call comcast. They'll try resetting shit, if it doesn't work they will ask if you want someone sent out. Next time, don't get one of the router/modem combo thing.

Anyone know of an anonymous proxy that I'd be safe torrenting Windows 7 on?

What's the cheapest capture card that werks?
>>
>>46977798
Whatever you enjoy if you are smart and capable.

>>46977887
You don't need a proxy.

>>46977930
Yes.

>>46977976
There are actual differences between capture cards. It's not like an hdmi cable where it either works or doesn't.
>>
>>46978020
I just need to capture footage of the original xbox
>>
>>46978020
>You don't need a proxy.
But I don't want to get yelled at.
>>
>>46978076
Also, would it work if I put the Win7 .iso onto a USB drive, made it bootable and ran it from there, or is there a specific file type I should be looking for here?
I am absolutely full of stupid questions.
>>
>>46978027
From my understanding the cheap ones have decently large input lag. So you will either need a splitter to play on a separate monitor/tv, deal with input lag, or buy a more expensive one. I can't comment on any specific ones for xbox.
>>
>>46978122
Uh, I think you need to make a bootable usb drive for that. Or you can just burn it onto a disk.
>>
>>46978181
How would I do that though? Sounds neat.
I'm sure I could Google a more general answer, but you guys know what I'm gonna be using it for so I figure it's a safer bet to ask here.
>>
>>46978142
Why isn't this shit just cheap tech by now...

I picked up a 5tb hdd today for $100, but I'm having trouble formatting it. I can't seem to format/use anything beyond the first 2048GB.

has anyone here found a way to get around this?

Try it from a linux livecd to see if the salesman or Microsoft jewed you.

i have a 1tb hdd and i only have left 15gb of free space
should i delete something or is it okey to have it full?

Is it a shell script? If so:
sh install.sh

You wouldn't be able to write temp files to it anymore if it totally fills up

>>
>>46978367

>>
>>46978387
thank you my friend
>>
>>46978204
Google will be your best bet. You need a program. It will format the flash drive, put the .iso on it, and make a bootable partition or whatever. Then you simply restart the computer, and tell it to boot from the usb in the bios. Should work identical as a disk from that point. I'm sure people on /g/ have done this countless times, so someone else could be of more help if you run into an issue or something.

>>46978259
No idea. I just emulate the ps2 games and/or buy pc ports instead.

>>46978296
There is a 2tb limit. I think you need a supporting mobo, a 64 bit operating system, and to choose the correct format for it to go above 2tb. Or something like that.

>>46978341
Definitely delete some shit. Things can get funky when you run out of space. If you are that limited on space it's time for another hard drive anyway.
>>
>>46978296
Are you running an ancient version of Windows? I think 2 TB was the maximum volume size at one point, due to something about the way the NTFS was implemented.
>>
If I'm buying a processor that only supports DDR-1600 memory, does that mean if I buy DDR-1866 memory it won't be compatible, or doesit just limit the frequency to 1600Hz?
>>
>>46978350

That's what I thought but I don't think so. It's just a plain text file as far as format goes.
>>
>>46978296
>>46978407
>>46978421
From Wikipedia:
>Because partition tables on master boot record (MBR) disks only support partition sizes up to 2 TB, dynamic or GPT volumes must be used to create NTFS volumes over 2 TB. Booting from a GPT volume to a Windows environment requires a system with UEFI and 64-bit support.
>>
What's the better media player these days? I prefer it be able to do on-the-fly playlisting, which doesn't seem to be a thing in MPV.
>>
>>46978439
Shell scripts are plain text files, and don't necessarily have to have a file extension. run "file installscript", where installscript is the name of the script

Odin must be smiling upon be as I've been offered two jobs this week. Both internal from business units I do project work with (as a Business Rep/SME). I don't know which to take:

Job One: Networking (Telephony) Engineer. $80K. Interstate move.

Job Two: Legacy System Manager (very old, very important proprietary developed internal system used by 400 users). Said they'd match job one, no need to move.

What do? My gut says go with 2.
>>
>>46978445
>>46978407
right clicking on the disk, rather than the partitions, allowed me to convert to GPT and use the full storage.

That's what ive done for my 4790k based on a basic guide i found online

increased multiplier to 4.6 at 1.25 volts. Ran stress test etc. Stable. Put it at 4.7 @ 1.25 volts. Instant crash.

2 weeks later still stable at 4.6 under load etc. Don 't know if i should reduce it or not. but yeah.

Downloaded a new font, it changed my font settings on my internet browsers automatically for some reason.
I deleted the fonts from Windows, and it's still stuck to it. Downloaded a regedit file to restore default font settings, set font settings back to default in the font menu, changed themes, and made sure that default fonts are correct in Firefox. It even seems to affect IE too, even though I don't use it. What do?

Hey guys, last stupid question
What's my safest bet for downloading a Windows 7 iso? Proxy, torrent, what? Should I run Peerblock while I download, or will that even make a difference?
I just want to avoid getting a letter from my ISP about it
Thanks anons!
>>
>>46978546
Side note. Windows default fonts haven't changed, fonts on Explorer and shit haven't been affected.

Is it really worth the extra $70 to go for the i7-4790k over the i5-4690k?
>>
>>46978570
Its not even worth $25 if you are not video editing
>>
>>46978486
>on-the-fly playlisting
For videos? Why? I always say mpc is best, and use vlc as a backup player. Not sure if either will help you with that though.

>>46978521
I'd say pick which one you think you would like more. If you can't do that...
>Said they'd match job one
They seem to want you. Ask them for more, if they don't, go with the other job. Then you don't have to decide yourself.

>>46978523
I'm not sure if I was actually any help, but cool. Good for you.

>>46978546
You can independently change what Firefox font you want. No need to fuck around with regedit.

>>46978552
I've got over 6tb downloaded/uploaded on my utorrent (I'm using 2.2.1, I know the rest of the world has switched long ago). Never got a letter from isp. Just torrent shit, if you get a letter, then you start worrying about taking precautions in the future.

>>46978570
Depends what you are using it for. Probably not for a vast majority of people.
>>
>>46978552
It is not illegal to torrent clean msdn iso without cracks or activators.
>>
>>46978671
>>46978625
Alright, neat
Thanks anons, I feel a little less worried now
Wish me luck installing this fucker when my PC parts show up tomorrow!
>>
>>46978625
>For videos? Why? I always say mpc is best, and use vlc as a backup player. Not sure if either will help you with that though.

Some nights I queue stuff up to fall asleep to, but usually with a fair bit of variety. So the ability to just drag and drop video files in and dynamically sort them without having to create a file every time is convenient.

I was compiling overnight on a remote server via ssh and this morning I see a 'terminated by kill signal' message. It may have been automated by the remote or something, I don't know.

Question is: Can I just resume by typing 'make' or do I have to do some additional task before/during/after?

Thanks in advance. Sometimes googling for small questions is a pain and doesn't yield any result.
>>
>>46978748
Also, if you could point me to the best no-nonsense compilation tutorial or guide for when this small questions arise, it would be a great plus.

Anyone know how I can WebM a file and include subs in XMedia Recode? I can add the .mkv file and select the subtitle file, but the subs are all off sync and start from the beginning of the video regardless of which part of the video I WebM

I'm making an android application, and I need to put an arbitrary number of buttons into a grid.
Right now I'm using a GridLayout, and I have no issues adding Button objects.
My problem is, the buttons show up in a line and go off the screen on the right instead of wrapping at the edge of the gridlayout/screen.

The Gridlayout is inside of a relative view, and I'm constructing and adding all of the buttons manually.

I really don't want to have to manually calculate the sizes of the buttons, and manually arrange them in the grid.
Am I missing something really obvious?

I don't do any kind of video editing or streaming, but I do game while listening to music, skyping and web browsing. I'm also worried about how relevant the i5 will stay with games.
