Actually all of those wrong. Companies doing serious engineering like Boeing and a lot of automakers use custom software running on Linux clusters. Also, while CAM/ machining software is available for windows, it's heavily frowned upon because unpredictable system performance can cause the software to jitter, leaving defects in the part being machined while the tool is moving over it. Linux solutions are preferred here too.

Most CAM software for Windows and Linux outputs generic G code plus whatever post-processing tweaks are required for your controller.
The CAM software (not the code it outputs) doesn't run the machining center because the PC on which design work is done isn't part of the machining center nor should it be.
You can produce G code using any text editor. CAM software just makes it MUCH easier for complex parts. Basic CNC training includes writing your own code for simple parts so you can better diagnose problems with a process. Machine shops frequently have to or choose to tweak their code manually on or at the machining center.
The answer to end all answers:
Linux is not for the average PC user. NEETS will constantly purvey this idea that Linux can be used as a main OS but from the ground up, Linux was never meant to be friendly for home users.
Linux is fantastic for very case-specific tasks that require absolute stability, but for all else, Windows and OSX are infinitely better.
Anyone "can" use Linux on a daily basis
(Ubuntu) but good god, it is still frighteningly far from usable for the average person. Even a straightforward Ubuntu install requires some command line logic and diagnostic skill, both of which are out of reach for 99% of computer users.
OSX is a nix system, but anyone who's watched OSX over the years knows EXACTLY why Apple keeps it nice and wrapped up. They only allow OSX on their machines not "because they're Apple" but because Linux cannot simply work out of the box for the millions of different hardware configurations out there in the world. Apple has to cater for each and every PC they make with OSX.

The issue is that you can't get consistent quality and output by doing everything with primitive tools. That's why commercial outfits producing real goods don't use non-commercial tools on linux. Linux is nice for work that is non-os dependant programming. It's minimal, secure (not alot of malware writers for linux because of its small market share), very customizable and flexible.
Windows is basically your go to for everything else involving multimedia / games (though i see that steam is working on porting games over to linux).

Super computers run Linux because its customization and the people who make them have the knowledge to create there own software specifically for them. Been out in the field a lot, most places I've been to for work runs Windows server 2008r2 or 2012r2 with an 80/20 split to Windows over Linux.

but what about routers, points of sale, drones, android phones and tablets, webservers and similar systems, device controllers (yeah, some of your devices use linux...), ...? what about Blender, Krita, GIMP, Kdenlive, FreeCAD, Dia, Inkscape...?

If you have a budget, there's VariCAD, a 3D parametric modeling CAD for the same price of the horrid 2D Autocad LT.
from there, there's a range that goes all the way up to UG/NX "ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES" from Siemens.
And if you /must/ use Autocad LT, check out DraftSight from Dassault. Dassault's middle-finger to Autodesk's 2D crap.
