If you are not paying for it the company must make up the costs some how. ;) All your information will be tracked and sold.
>>
>>46825611
Hmm, I can only imagine some advertising...

Go to call someone have to listen to some 15 second advertisement...
>>
Tether it to a real computer. Enjoy your free Internet.
>>
>>46825692
You're right, but that has only a tangential relationship with the point >>46825632 snidely made. Cellular service being "free as in beer" doesn't factor in the data collected about you as a payment. In fact, hardly anyone does in our economy. Jaron Lanier and some others have talked about a notion where the data you contribute should be proportionate to the value that's exhausted from it, but that's neither the status quo nor is it a practical idea.

Google will offer free (as in without payment) cellular service. It will not be free as in Willy or free as in an unbound atom or free as in without restraint or free as in any of the other definitions you've willfully erroneously grasped to argue that Google's misusing a word with no fewer than 8 at least subtly and at times very different definitions.

Finding a place to serve you ads isn't really the problem; finding the right thing to advertise to you is. They'll probably use the conversations to better inform their ads business, but I'd be surprised if they injected things into conversations.

if you love us so much, why don't you marry us?
>>
>>46825871
If either of you two think Google would inject ads into your conversation then you're fucking retarded. They're not Spotify or Pandora. They'll keep the data and use it to inform ads they present to you all over the rest of the Internet.

Music services push ads to you in the service because they can't hit you anywhere else. Spotify's not in the business of selling and placing ads, so they have to interrupt your music and give you some shit. Google only does it with Youtube because so many people watch videos without logging in that they can't do anything practical to apply those insights to your browsing experience across the web.

You can accuse Google of being evil or amoral or whatever else, but to insinuate that they're *also* incompetent is just you being a fucking faggot. They don't get to be that big without knowing what they're doing; at least give them that much credit.

If google absorbs Amazon or creates their own serivce of the like, everything from food to books to clothes can be tailored to your needs. Not just based on searches but your conversations which can be mined to target certain goods to certain subgroups of the population.

When Hagrid came to visit Harry, he was puzzled to find that Harry had no interest in him. Hagrid half expected Harry to gawk like his aunt, uncle, and cousin being as someone of Hagrid's stature was a rare sight indeed. Harry just stared into the glow of a computer monitor as Hagrid kneeled down and bent over to greet Harry from outside of his cupboard. "Hullow Harry, muh name is Hagrid." Harry continued to stare at the glow but acknowledged Hagrid with a disinterested "uhh hmm". Still rather taken by Harry's reaction Hagrid continued. "O-oi got you a letter here. It's from Hogworts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!" Hagrid broke the wax seal bearing the Hogwarts crest and began to read aloud. "Dear Mr. Potter-" When Hagrid finished the letter he looked down to see that Harry had not broken his gaze from the monitor and had began typing on the keyboard. "Well don't just sit there Harry! You're ay WIZARD!" Harry abruptly stopped typing. "Wot did you just coll me?" asked Harry in a irritated tone. "Ah-ay waizard, you're a wizard" responded Hagrid nervously. In a swell of frustration Harry aggressively retorts "FUCK YOU MATE. I'M NOT A VIRGIN, I'M NOT EVEN 20 YEARS OLD. I'M TRYING TO TROLL ABOUT GOOGLE BOTNETS ON /g/ AND YOU'RE MAKING RIGHT DIFFICULT WITH YOUR WORRTY SCHOOL OF VIRGINS. WOULD YOU KINDLY GET FUCK OUT OR I SWEAR ON ME MUM'S GRAVE I'LL WREK YOUR DECK!!" Harry slamed the door on the cupboard causing Hagrid to fall over which in turn made the house quake and made Harry's relatives loose their balance.

If you had friends you would know they already do with the messenger app, there is a way to start a voice call just like a cell phone call that uses data. I guess however if you are streaming hentai all day you use up all your data and won't have enough data left to call your friend.

freedompop already does free cellular service, though limited and based on sprint's network. i've had it for over a year now and it's pretty good for the neet life, since you hardly make calls anyway but need a line/data occasionally.

i'd just imagine that google would do it better, unlimited etc.
>>
>>46831227

i got the freedom pop modem on sale for 20$ flat during the cyber monday sales

they give you 2gb a month of free data
combine this with my cellphone hotspot i already pay for and my direct cable internet = unstoppable shitposting
>>
>>46825815
This is true but then is it any different to what other companies are already doing, and us paying for it?
>>
99% of you already use Google's os for your smartphones you really think they would gain anymore data mining capabilities by having you under wireless service?
>>
>>46831300
I think I'm misunderstanding your question, but if I've read it correctly, my answer is that *yes*, it is different in that we're paying money for it.

In the hyper-cynical view that carriers *are* mining our data just as eagerly (though not as effectively) as Google would, the options are
>get data mined, pay $____/month, get cellular service
or
>get data mined, get cellular service

This is getting further into the cynical realm, but I'll humor it because there are clearly those sorts of people here:

Between Google and (let's say) AT&T, you have to assume that AT&T is just one really smart hire away from getting almost as good as Google is at combing through your data. So if you're worried because Google is just so *good* at it, you really have no safe haven among either of these players.

More strategically, AT&T is not in the direct business of monetizing your conversations this way, which is why they and others cooperate with federal agencies so readily (Or so goes the thinking - without a sock full of batteries and a CEO chained to a desk, our speculation will never get *fully* satisfied).

By comparison, Google directly monetizes data on you. Federal agencies coming to Google asking for free access to their raw data would be like going to Coca Cola and asking for the recipe to Coke. When offered the choice between two devils (Google and AT&T), my intuition tells me to trust Google if only because they're not giving my data away like trash on pickup day.

This is the decision most Americans will be making: between Google and 1 of the 3 or 4 big national carriers. In this context, the decision seems obvious.
>>
>>46831341
I don't see how our thinking about this is relevant; Google thinks so, and that's what matters.

Companies like Google and Facebook are just starving for more data, thinking it'll answer the unknowable in life. Let them offer me free cellular service if they think that'll give them some insight into me that my most private google searches couldn't reveal
>>
>>46831478
You really think they collect data in an attempt to understand the meaning of life?

wtf did I just read.

Google is becoming more than just some company.

I truly believe that Google is becoming it's own economical system where they begin to transform society on nearly every level. In time as robotic automation and artificial intelligence replaces jobs people will be left with nothing unless they "subscribe" to a certain corporate system where your housing and basic needs will be provided so as long as you provide them with data.

Data is becoming the oil of the 21st century, and we all produce it no matter what we do. Other corporations will compete with other systems, for example imagine if Apple & Amazon had their own system to where they have literal cities of which they have the dominate influence.

States and provinces will become less relevant in time, instead it'll become more like ancient Greece where there are city states that govern an area. Each City-State will be governed by a corporation with different rules, regulations, and culture.
>>
>>46833896

I'm skeptical if they even have an end goal, that's what terrifies me I don't think they do
>>
>>46833985

It could theoretically work.

Once people start losing their jobs to automation they can't rely upon the government for proper assistance, what I propose is a true Free Market society where competing systems within a country will play out.
>>
>>46834068

I'm not saying it couldn't work I was saying google is amassing surveillance and I don't think they have an plan for it. it could have worked for dozens of years now I can't remember the guys name but he proved it works, the thing is whats the point of being a king without serfs?

Seen Greece or Italy lately?
Google could probably buy them from the EU, we all fucking know the EU doesn't have the money to bail them out
>>
I'm going to use this shit for the same reason I won't use Google Fiber. People still don't seem to get that GOOGLE SELLS YOU. YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. Do you want them knowing EVERYTHING you do on the internet? Right now they only have access to some parts of what you do (E-mail, YouTube, etc.), but what this does is give them access to EVERYTHING that you do. Fuck that, seriously. I don't give a shit if I'm called a fanboy or whatever, but this shit is retarded, and it's not hard to figure out why they want to do this.

The ONLY good part about this is that it provides competition for everyone else that we sorely need. That's why I'll let you retards do it while I watch and wait for everyone else to get their shit together.
>>
>>46833896

Most of their revenue still comes from advertising. They are an ad company that really wants to "get to know" their customers.

If the product is free then you are the product. Snap out of it, fanboy.

I realize you're like 16 or whatever but once you grow up and your internet time involves things that can be important you'll start understanding that privacy is not only important for people trying to buy drugs on the internet but for anyone who does anything remotely sensitive on the internet like paying bills, buying tickets for traveling, doing taxes, sending work emails, etc. Neither the government nor a company should have access to any of this shit, they're supposed to be able to ASK for it via a court. Not just fucking take it whenever they want it. Checks and balances.
