I refuse to call myself a fucking "millennial". I was born in the 80s and fondly remember the 90s as my childhood.

"Millennials" to me are the little fucks who were born late 90s and later. Fuck anyone that says otherwise.

93' here.

I remember when we were more commonly referred to as Gen Y instead of Millennial so I just say that instead. I have fuck all in common with the way the 2000 and later crowd grew up. The tech gap is high enough that a distinction is necessary in my opinion.

The fuck are you talking about.

Who doesn't still use CD/DVD drives? Between OS installs and initial driver CD's there's no reason not to. Not to mention many places take data via CD/DVD but refuse flash drives due to security reasons.

>>

For legacy hardware(which there are a lot of in manufacturing).
They do not come standard on prebuilt computers or laptops.

CD/DVD drives do on virtually anything that isn't built to be light weight and small. They're also likely not going to go away any time soon.

And you're going to have an incredibly fun time if you try to build a computer without a CD/DVD drive if you don't have a secondary computer and a different form of storage present.
>>
>>46786718
>get a new device or part, comes with install disk

are you a retard?
We wont see the end of optical drives for many many years

That doesn't seem to be 3d printed with that metal in the middle. Its sad to know someone really not know the meaning of that save icon

>>
>>46786860
Driver install discs are more often than not obsolete. It is far better to get the drivers online
Many movies, games, and programs are digitally delivered these days. I honestly have not used a disc drive for three years, they're 99% depreciated.

This has all of the undertones of the stereotypical representation of this situation too, including believing that someone would "le epic 3d print" something like that, since 3D printing is new and hip.

DVD and BDs represent some 3 billion USD in sales. Writers and media are some additional 2 something billions. Last year they sold about 90 million drives I think.

You can look up the right data at CDRinfo I think.

So sales have come down but the whole "LE OPTIKELS IS LE DEAD" is hipster babble.

Nothing to see or discuss.

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/feb/26/australian-researchers-create-first-3d-printed-jet-engine

Australian researchers have created the world’s first 3D-printed jet engines, a breakthrough that could change the way aircraft are constructed.

Researchers from Monash University, aided by staff from the CSIRO and Deakin University, have printed two engines and put one of them on display at the International Air Show in Avalon, Victoria.

Monash and its spin-off company Amaero Engineering have registered interest from Airbus, Boeing and Raytheon, the defence manufacturer.
