I did web development in my old job in C++ doing lightweight image and video processing, heavy file operations, full-text search in image XMP/IPTC metadata, writing background services etc.

Since this thread has derailed into "why female developers get no respect" I'll chime in.
I work in electronics recycling, and there is a new woman working on our website. I've yet to see any of her work yet, but I have faith that she will get the job done. However, I've met plenty of other female developers in the past that can't and they've all had one thing in common, at least to me: they have an irrational fear of competition while simultaneously have an equally irrational impulse to always be right.
A prime example being that there was one woman I met while doing simple front-end work to present an eula to customers.
I essentially wrote something quick that didn't open a popup. She become aggressive after I suggested an alternative to her, but instead of defending her solution and saying it was better, she said "both are equally effective, but I suggested mine first." Needless to say mine was used instead. She left a few weeks later to start her own business.
