On Fedora you can install dwm-user and if you wish to customize your configuration, put the dwm config header file to $HOME/.dwm/config.h and adjust it according to your needs. Every time the user configuration file has changed, dwm-start will rebuild the user dwm binary prior to its execution.
Other distros are too lazy and shitty to make things work like that.
And Debian is so out of date even if they made it convenient it would still suck shit.
