Do tell me where you find that stuff, I've tried the usual "[show name] torrent" shit but have trouble finding more obscure shows.
Is there some underground french-cartoon watching imageboard somewhere I don't know about?
>>
>>45440936
I will once they're on par with other drives for cost/TB, which where I live is around $40/TB.
Till then, even with having to buy extra cards, it's cheaper to go with 3-4TB arrays.
>>
>>45441122
No. But alot of cartoons you watched as a kid might have been French.
>>
>>45440936
Helium drives are shit expensive from the start. I'm sure an 8TB one would cost around $1000 USB
>>
>>45441177
I'm aware, I just wish it'd be easier to download 50 different shows in a matter of minutes lite it is for western/Japanese stuff.

because higher capacity platters are prone to issues
>>
>>45440936
Will one of these be quieter than four single platter WD blacks?
>>
>>45442782
not exactly, two lower capacity drives will result in a higher chance of data loss
>>
>>45440936
I've conditioned myself to avoid drives with loads of separate heads and platters. More moving parts = greater chance of failure and I don't really want to fill a drive with 8TB worth of content and then it dies on me.

I'd rather get 8x1TB drives. A lot less likely to fail when you only have one platter and one head. I'm hoping single platter 2TB+ drives hit the market soon if they haven't already. It doesn't seem like we've been making big strides in storage density as of late, we're just adding more platters.

This is why you buy two of everything. Most enterprise quality drives have long warranties.
>>

what would you reccomend? Are the warranties really worth it. I've had regular drives running well for years. How long does a enterprise warranty cover their stuff for?

How does adding helium to a HDD allow for more storage?

Aren't they still just platters?
>>
>>45440978
Is there anything else from the land of croissants that is as good as Wakfu? Only other French show I can think of is Code Lyoko and the gap in quality is pretty big there as well.

>>
>>45444520
Sandisk has $170 1TB PCIE SSD roadmapped at the end of 2015. It's shitty nand. But hey it's still cheap.

Mechanical storage is a dead technology:
It's too hot, too slow, too loud, too big, too unreliable and too power hungry for the cloud.
>>
>>45444622
>Mechanical storage is a dead technology
and yet its still expensive and most servers still rely on your typical enterprise hdd
Its too soon to declare it dead
>muh cloud
buzzword, you think cloud services can afford to hand out ssd storage. Even ssd vps are expensive. We're still a while away from ssd takeover
>>
>>45444043
In usual hard drives, the gas inside is air. Just regular air. With bits filtered out but it's just air.
Helium is lighter than air. It's less dense, so that platters can be put closer together since there's less air resistance when spinning and crap like that.
They can't make it without zero gas because the gas is part of how it works- it's there because there needs to be a small gap between platter and reading head, and the gap has gas molecules in it.

Anyway, short answer is it's less dense. Like how moving through custard is harder than water.

TechReport has independently tested their 256GB 840 Pro to 1.5PB while only losing 50GB worth of cells. That type of endurance for a drive that small is incredible. A 512GB or 1TB drive could withstand that much more. The 850 Pro line with its 3D NAND has endurance a magnitude higher than this with a 128GB drive being tested to 8PB.

Mechanical storage has not a single tangible benefit over an SSD any more. Endurance just isn't a concern, and anyone citing the limited lifespan of NAND storage is a FUD spreading shill.

>The burn rate has slowed slightly since the initial uptick, but over 3400 sectors have been compromised so far. At 1.5MB each, that's about 5GB of flash lost to cell degradation.

Along with a bit of music, about 40 various TV shows and movies is taking up half of my main drive which is 1TB. If I saved everything I watched I easily would have filled it up multiple times over by now.
8TB for archiving videos wouldn't be enough for high resolution/high bit rate content.
