That's not the problem, the problem is that you can't use Gecko without also using XULRunner, and fucking nobody wants to use XULRunner.
Mozilla's upcoming Servo engine on the other hand can be embedded in applications written in other languages and UI toolkit. Mark my words: the moment Servo becomes even remotely usable, Mozilla's popularity with the software development community will suddenly jump.
