I use Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. To me, Linux operating systems seem to be the best-of-both-worlds between Windows and Mac OS X. With Windows, you get good customization with great business tools. However, it's prone to errors and viruses, which also makes it a bad choice for creative endeavors. With Mac, you get less compatible malware and great tools for creativity, but it has less customization options, and it's not a good business computer. With Linux OSes (depending on the distro, of course), you get great customization, business, and creative tools, with less malware, all for free.

Currently downloading WIndows 7 .iso(thus can't post screenshots), transitioning from Linux, here's why:
1) Unmatched hardware comparability, specifically considering my severe Wi-FI connectivity issues on Linux.
2) Unmatched variety of software, I'd love to play a game considering that I don't have anything else to do in my life.
3) I do not hold any ethical views against piracy, thus it is as free as Linux to me.
4) Windows community isn't as quarter as annoying as Linux one, holds software-related no ideology and generates the largest amount of documentation and reading.
Really, the only reason for me to stay on Linux is lower resource consumption but I really don't give too much shit about it.
Why 7, you may ask? Well, Windows 8.1 .iso is 100 MB larger than maximum extend of 4GB USB and all guides to installing Windows 8.1 through 4GB USB are not written in mind of installing Windows through Linux and I am content with using 7, it's not like 8.1 is far better.

The reason I agree with OP about Ubuntu isthat it could be installed for a non-computer-savvy as an alternative to windows or apple Os's for a third option because it's so easy to use.
I use windows 7 because my laptop is a couple years old and I have an xbox to stream media to. I have a netbook from CL that has mint + xfce on it for a small programming computer

Fedora 21 with GNOME 3. It's okay, playing around with adding a task bar.
Background I got from an earlier /g/ thread, it's a reminder that I have to make a similar background at a much, much higher resolution.
Justification: I use this Linux box for everything, including work. Fedora is about as bleeding edge as I can get without severely hindering my productivity.

Extremely cohesive and functional OS. Has wide software support like windows while also supporting a full range of nix tools. The way the system intertwines with Applescript and Automator is truly wonderful as well, not to mention the great user interface. It's also deceptively customizable.

My favorite OS is Antergos because it only adds one repository rather than an entire blockade of outdated repositories (here's looking at you, Manjaro) to the arch setup.
It also takes a fraction of the time to install so I can get on with my life and quit playing pretend that it's still 1995. Oh, and the AUR is fully compatible. Huzzah.

I'm on Debian Jessie because it'll become stable soon and I want to stick to Debian because they package security fixes quick, do a lot of security and stability patching without taking all the configuration away like Ubuntu does and it's vanilla enough to be fast and perform well. Also lots of packages.

I use Gentoo GNU/Linux.
It werks on my machine and doesn't break.
Slow to update / install things on slower machines, but it's worth it if you know what you want from it.
