So now that ThinkPads are officially dead, what laptops are the ThinkPads of the future? EliteBooks? Precisions?
Yes, older ThinkPads are still good, but in five years your trusty T-series or X-series from before 2011 will be only good for basic tasks, not for full-time computing. The current ThinkPads being released won't even last five years, let alone 10+ years like the old ThinkPads that refuse to die. In the past couple years, Lenovo has made a firm decision to make ThinkPads into a purely consumer brand, not the business-class brand of yore.
This thread isn't for shilling ThinkPads. It's for shilling alternatives.

Why I still use my x41 for web and never find is slow? setup is everything - I fully expect an x230 to be usable in 5-10yrs... how fast do you need your porn? Its not like you will be designing the next apollo rocket with it... you will still just be shitposting on 4chan....

I was talking about the new ones currently being released.
Your X230 will probably end up becoming a web browsing computer in 10 years, and you will be looking for a replacement for actual computing tasks. Don't forget that the X41 was also a top-tier machine when it was released, just like the X230 is now.

What I find really annoying is that now almost all notebook are 16:9.
Even business notebooks. 16:9 is just bad for everything but media. I want at least 16:10. I find 3:2 and 4:3 the best. But no notebook has these. Only the Macbook Pro has a 16:10 screen but I don't like it otherwise. So my only option is using an old notebook like the X201. It's fine but I would prefer a higher res screen and more modern hardware.

Yep, I was sad when my old T30 died. Now I have T61p with 16:10 and it still feels wrong after a couple years of daily use. Can't even imagine the horror of 16:9. If it really comes down to it, I'll get old Thinkpad and run in text mode or framebuffer console.
