>making increasingly thinner phones that need to be recharged constantly because thinner and thinner batteries

Can this trend please stop? I'm not some fucking 6-year-old who can't carry anything more than a centimetre-thick phone. Phones could easily fit in your pocket ten years ago, despite being thick as the dragon dildos these thinfags use every night.

If you're going to make thinner phones at the cost of battery life, kindly fuck off. Thank you.

Then get a regular cell phone (not a smarthone) from the late 00's you fucking retard
>>
Battery thickness has nothing to do with it, because if you weren't retarded you would notice that capacity is actually increasing.

The real problem is power hungry hardware and inefficient. heavy software.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Take the Nexus 5 as an example. The camera lens sticks out from the casing, rather than staying flush.

Surely making the entire phone 1mm thicker so that the lens didn't stick out, just asking to be scratched, would have allowed a battery that can actually last it a full day with decent amount of useage.

Thinner was cool when we had bricks, but come on, lets be a bit more practical!
>>
>>44020600
it seems to be already stopping
phones are becoming slightly thicker now that hi-res screens are becoming the new selling point rather than the DESIIIIGN
This still won't stop the phablets. Stop watching movies on your phones and get a tablet/laptop people!

The Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series have inexpensive third party batteries that double the thickness of the phone and triple the battery life.

Pic related, this gets me 4 or 5 days of use with 16 hours of screentime between charges.

>>
>>44020685

A bigger screen yields benefits.
A thinner phone really fucking doesn't.
Fits slimmer in your fag tight jeans or something?

Breaks easier?
Feels worse in your hand?

Really just say one that isnt about vanity.

We could handle phones 15 times the thickness of todays phones without even batting an eye, it really makes no sense to not even give consumers the option to take an extra 0.5 or even 1cm thickness in return for 5+ days of battery life.
>>
>>44020600
For now, why isn't your solution to just carry a battery pack?

Or buy one of the phone models that are actually intended for India and other 3rd world places that have frequent power interruptions - those DO have large batteries.

You even get the benefits from the smartphone SoCs having become more power efficient due to dem flat small battery phones.

We're basically finally back at the point where specific smartphones can do a 24 hour phone call...

I want to make another point.

give me a proper phone with qwerty keyboard! fucking hell, I've been using Nokia C6 since it came out, now bought One X from a friend and I am still using Nokia for sms and things like that, typing on a touchscreen sucks epic dick. All I want is hardware from S4, 4.3 inch screen, 2500MAh battery and I will buy that in a heartbeat
>>
>>44021359
nobody wants to be 'that guy' carrying around a battery pack, otg cable, flash drive, etc. etc.

But really, a phone with a 4.9" screen, something around 350ppi, brightness good enough to use in sunlight, modest hardware, a swappable 3500-4000mAh battery, and an SD slot would be just about perfect for a fuckload of people. Too bad nobody is making that phone.
>>
>>44021359

>For now, why isn't your solution to just carry a battery pack?

>>

The Sony Xperia Z2 has a 3200 mAh battery and it's a sleek slim phone, mine lasts 2 days with moderate to heavy usage. The Z3 coming out soon will last 40% longer. Plus it has by far the best camera on the market (20.7 megapixels), which you can use underwater. I have no idea why anyone would buy any other Android phone.

>Captainmacfag appears to state that he gets 16 days of battery life out of his motion charging powerbank attached to his dick and can still power the vibrator lodged in his ass

Thanks man, your solution, after all, only forces specific phones on me, has me charge 2 fucking batteries at night instead of the one I already have to, and has me changing battery packs.

Compared to a phone that would be 1cm fatter than the usual phone, which would simply let me use it for 5 days and charge it then.

MANY TIMES MORE CONVENIENT.

anyone who still has a flip-phone is a dinosaur.

Communication is one of the lesser reason to have a smartphone. Alarms, notes etc. are far more useful.

Also, texting. God I hated receiving texts on my flip phone. And texts are a better way to communicate too.

I used to think these were cheaper...
As soon as I figured out I could buy a lumia 520 for like 50 bucks and put it on a dumb-phone plan for 3 bucks a month- it was in the trash

Also, a battery pack case is like 30 bucks for these things

More important should be thinks like monotone screens, lighter operating systems with less fancy graphics, keeping the phones at 480P or less... but mostly we just wont ever be happy. For example, I'd love a phone like that, but with a six inch screen... no one will ever make that, Until project ARA we will never be able to choose where our money goes- if ara ever gets going anywhere
>>
>>44024174
I'd love a 4.3 inch bar phone with a 720p screen, NFC, and a stripped-down, non-android-based OS with a consistent, good user experience. Like, no apps, fuck that shit, here's a phone that does the usual handful of smartphone things and nothing else because fuck you. Just do the stuff you need and do it well.
At best I'd say give the messaging system a protocol plugin setup. Same for an activity stream app - get RSS articles, Twitter, Facebook, longer emails all on one feed, get SMS/MMS, XMPP, Twitter DMs, short emails and IRC all in one chat system. Shit like that.
If you control the whole system you can also have a consistent theming system, unlike shit like Cyanogenmod's theme engine that won't really work because people are swapping apps out left and right with shit that doesn't use system elements - meaning you can rice easily.

N8 Camera is god tier, they really nailed the design in that model.
Just like they did with N82.

Both great phones and I actually prefer that old brick of a N82. Still have it.
Probably the best of the Symbians imo.
MP3 player still had a fucking search function and the design is very nice.
Fits hand nicely and can take ungodly amount of punishment.

Speaking of durability, one of the main reasons I haven't bought a new phone after N8 is the durability.
It's indestructible.

if you work 50 hours a week you're both a failure and a disappointment! 50 hours slaving away a week is no way to live.

I suck maybe 8 dicks a week, and have a 6k yearly salary! You should try servicing the business industry, instead of making money for someone else who then pays me to suck their dick for them, you know?

It also supplements my nutritional needs, you know?

didn't they make a new transparent solar panel that can probably be used as a phone screen in the near future. if done right phones will just need a battery for standby and they can charge while you use it.
>>
>>44026706

Nah, rather they glued the ribbon cable to the screen, and then glued the battery on the ribbon cable and the screen.

The whole thing is glued the fuck together, as if 10 gay men in an orgy all spewed their toxic jizz in this device, then assembled it and let it harden, coat it with more semen, let it harden again and then package the whole deal up.

Tech currently in most smartphones was around ~20 years ago, only recently has it been repurposed and refined for use in these devices. This is the result of market demand and although advances have occurred, we're still, for all intents and purposes, stuck in the fucking dark ages, reusing ancient shit. It's sad that the same sort of ARM CPU that existed in 2001 was still being used in flagship phones as late as 2012, and even the newest flagship phones use what is ultimately a closely-related derivative of these processors

Because a battery pack is horseshit!
Every time i plug something into my microUSB port, i wear out the conection just a little bit more. I am so glad my nexus can be charged without pluging anything physically into the phone.

My microUSB port on my nexus is basically virgin. I sealed it up with a little bit of black silicone RTV which can be easily peeled out if need be, keeps the dust out of the port.

I think all new smartphones should have wireless charging build in, to negate the fact that the battery only lasts half a day.

I have a wireless charger at work, in the car and on my desk at home. It's wonderful to just plop down your phone and not having to worry about plugging and unplugging several times a day.

Sure, but you can't compare the old phones to smartphones. And you can still get plain cellphones - which last weeks on standby.

I went through various of the first brick phones from the 90s, and their battery life was atrocious when you actually used them for making calls.

Modern batteries, specifically that lipo stuff, are crazy effective compared to the older ones. Smartphone users don't notice that because at the same time the devices become more and more power-hungry. But go look at other applications, like RC cars. Go compare battery packs from 10-20 years ago to the modern ones, the improvements are enormous.

Girls keep their phones in their bras and don't often worry about size.
PEOPLE want something thin, functional in relation to their needs, and that's fairly transparent to use. A flip phone is a pain for things like internet, photos, and general communication that isn't voice. Smartphones are the most common phone in the world for a reason, and it isn't cause people are "sheep" or because people "are being brainwashed into thinking they need something they don't". It's cause people fucking use their devices for the functions they have on a daily basis, just because you can't get into it doesn't mean everyone else is wrong and you're right, aspie.
