If you feel so inclined, you could always take a new MBP or MBA and have it decaled with something like 3M 1080

Assuming you handle the dissasembly and just hand over the casing to a pro, they should be able to do it for under $200

I never understood why people go for a Mac, especially tech people.

If you're sacrificing compatibility by going away from Windows, why not go all the way to a proper GNU/Linux system?

What's the point in using a semi-locked down proprietary system? You're going away from the benefits of Windows, but not going towards the benefits of Linux.
>>
>>43107386
Because it a Unix system that just works and the hardware is just generally nice.
>>
I own one, to this day it's still just as great as my new laptop.

It's running Windows 8.1, Upgraded the RAM to 2 GB, Used to have a 320GB HDD inside until I put that one into the second slot of my new laptop. So it's back on it's original 80GB HDD.
The disk drive's broken however, does not read any disks anymore. and I am pretty sure the fan's giving up as well(Who knows it might already, it's on a cooling stand. temps are 57C-70C average) but other than that it is still a trusty brick of power.

Sadly, the Core Duo processor prevents me of installing the newer versions of OS X, but having windows on it makes it quite a lot better.
>>
>>43107386
>sacrificing compatibility
What can you do on a Windows machine and not on OSX?

(I even say that as someone who doesn't have an OSX install. I want one but AMD hackintosh is too much trouble.)
>>
>>43107386
'Computing-wise that three week vacation turned out to be very relaxing. Machine would suspend and resume without problem, WiFi just worked, audio did not stop working, I spent three weeks without having to recompile the kernel to adjust this or that, nor fighting the video drivers, or deal with the bizarre and random speed degradation that my ThinkPad suffered.

While I missed the comprehensive Linux toolchain and userland, I did not miss having to chase the proper package for my current version of Linux, or beg someone to package something. Binaries just worked.

From this point on, using the Mac was a part-time gig for me. During the Novell layoffs, I returned my laptop to Novell and I was left with only one Linux desktop computer at home. I purchased a Mac laptop and while I fully intended to keep using Linux, the dogfooding driver was no longer there.'

http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2013/Mar-05.html

Hardware changes regularly but is currently a Zenoss-supplied new Core i7 MacBook Pro 15" with matte display.

http://daniel.robbins.usesthis.com/

Mostly Macs at this point. I have a 27-inch iMac at work (big screen) but with the tiny wireless keyboard; I long ago got tired of keyboards that, with wheels, could double as skateboards, so it's nice to have a little one made by a reliable manufacturer. At home I have several elderly 13 or 15 inch Macbook Pros, and an 11 inch Air. That's the computer I carry when I need to carry one. I took it around Europe for much of last summer, and now I carry it back and forth between work and home, and hardly notice its presence. Would that all computers were as small and light.

You know, i'd expect someone to say a line regarding videogames, with all honesty that's why I put windows on my macbook: All the tasks I did on OS X can easily be repeated in Windows, and most games are already available on OS X as well. Yet a small category is not.

I'd happily switch to OS X again, but hackintoshing is a PITA. So far I just got a VM with 10.9 if I wish to play around with it.

I love how the battery of my macbook's only good as a UPS now.
>>

>implying that all laptop batteries don't suffer the same performance degradation over time

So, OSX for almost everything (including quite a lot of games), reboot to a Windows install for other games. That's what I'd do with Mac hardware.

I'm currently happy with Linux but it really doesn't have many advantages over OSX so I doubt I'd ever boot to it if OSX were an option. Maybe that would change if more professional-quality software were available for Linux, idk.

Linux has the potential, but it misses a number of points that make OS X and Windows the two solid contestants.
I myself think Linux can be a great third, and a fourth is already coming, Chrome OS(despite the godawful design Google's pushing) is introducing android app compatibility which strengthens it's weapon to enter the arena, but still has a lot to do.
Honestly; I wish Chrome OS could stay on its current design.

It's fun to have a large amount to choose from, but unfortunately, Windows stays a perfect combination of all the items available.

What a piece of shit. Almost all of them had the plastic palmrest chipping away at the front edge - that specific one included. Their Superdrives? Absolute garbage. Good luck getting one that works. If you're a locksmith maybe you can jimmy it the exact right way.

Doesn't just work. Shitty plastic body. No backlit keyboard. 1280x800 (kek). Not the best at shit.
>>
>>43108468
all of them except the very first model had a 64 bit CPU, but the GMA950 and X3100 versions can't run OS X in 64 bit since there's no 64 bit video card driver.
Also, you would need a replacement bootloader on all of the polycarbonate macbooks, since they all used 32 bit EFI.

Windows and Linux would be fine with 64 bit on all but the very first model.

I had a 64GB LTE Pixel that I got for essentially $400 through a trade (traded something I bought for $400)

Beautiful simplistic device, only problem was it didn't run OSX or Windows. If they released a Haswell version that could at the very least run Windows with everything working then it would be great.

I eventually just got a 13" rMBP but I sold that and bought a 11" haswell MBA and pocketed the rest.
