what does /g/ think of plasma?
>>51965888
Depends on the temperature
>>51965888
I think plasma is cool.
Plasma is considered the fourth state of matter. The three other states are solid, liquid, and gas. Plasma is a cloud of protons, neutrons and electrons where all the electrons have come loose from their respective molecules and atoms, giving the plasma the ability to act as a whole rather than as a bunch of atoms. A plasma is more like a gas than any of the other states of matter because the atoms are not in constant contact with each other, but it behaves differently from a gas. It has what scientists call collective behavior. This means that the plasma can flow like a liquid or it can contain areas that are like clumps of atoms sticking together.
pretty cool, hun?
top bloat
It's shit.
That kinda looks like a Chinese knock-off of Windows 10 but they tried to go all white and shit like Apple.
If I wanted to I could have all that white-ish transparency shit on xfce, so I still don't see the point of KDE overcomplexity.

I tried it last night, it looked alright and all but it just felt so unstable. I got this unpolished vibe like everything could just collapse any second. The animations were pretty unsustainable too. I also could NOT get over how much wasted space is in the application menu. I just went back to muh xfce.
>>51965888
Its nice but its bloated
I would use on a desktop
for a laptop, dwm/i3/bspwm is king
>everything about this is meme DE is gross
>>51966018
I had the same experience on debian, but I moved to arch and it's extremely stable now. so much for debian's >muh stablility
>>51965974
This. All the white looks kinda shit when you're actually using it, it looks alright in screenshots.
>>51965974
>>51966056
there is a dark theme for you plebs
I just noticed this, but the file picker dialog is WAY better than the GTK one
>>51966075
>>51966096
Still looks like shit even compared to Windows 8.
Is this your first time using KDE5 by any chance?
Plasma is a step in the right direction for KDE, but they still have a ways to go. Most of the DE's software is still laid out the same way it was before, with little attention to paid to flow, alignment, etc and a general love of unnecessary or misplaced buttons.
They don't need to go the extremes GNOME has but it could use a considerable amount of cleanup.
>>51966152
Yeah, I've used mosly awesomewm and bspwm in the past. I'm surprised how much customization there is in here.
IMO it at least looks better than Windows 8, which has fuckhuge window borders and ugly fonts.
>m-muh bloat
it's no wonder loonix is still stuck in the early 2000s, it's because of all you stupid poorfags with old shitty hardware
you are what is holding back ganoo loonicks
Well we got plasma weapons, lightsabers, impulse drives, and even phasers and warp engines.
Yeah plasma is a pretty cool guy, he burns everything and is only afraid of magnets.
>>51966333
This isn't the right attitude to take. Nice OS features don't necessarily need crazy resources... it's all a matter of efficiency.
It's entirely possible to write a modern OS that runs like a dream on G4s, P4s, and C2Ds, but it means that developers will need ratchet up the engineering a few degrees, forgo some resource-intensive conveniences, and make a concerted effort to design the desktop environment as a single piece instead of a cacophony of disparate parts struggling to work together.
>>51966018
haha, I think xfce is pretty bloated. I'm running openbox with tint2
how come no other DEs have a keybinding for hiding window borders? it's super useful for videos
>>51965888
I use it on my desktop because I have modern computer hardware and "bloat" is irrelevant and meaningless. Been nothing but stable, very customizable, KDE's application suite is a collection of the most mature and usable software on Linux.
Looks decently pretty without the ricing effort.
Pretty happy desu
I know nothing about KDE, is it true it doesn't use gtk at all?
What are the differences between XFCE and KDE?
>>51966018
I've been using plasma for a while. It gave me that first feeling when I started using it. I changed the compositor settings and reduced the notifications. That made it rock solid. It's real comfy now.
>>51966935
Looks decent tea bee heych familia
Unfortunately too white and the dark theme sucks
Talking about plasma, I have a question. How does it look physically? Because in school told me is hotter than gas and it behaves like liquid, I have always thought our looks somewhat like lava and it's almost always represented like that. But is this true? Haven't we taken pictures of plasma?
>>51966779
>that font rendering
ugh
>>51966779
openbox has.
>>51967385
>is it true it doesn't use gtk at all?
yes
but the applications you might use could be gtk involved
Linux cannot into great looking UI, it always looks like it's made by autists.
