Is this a good sad?
>>
Not if you care about speeds. Kingston done the old bait and switch tactic on the controller, producing a few hundred or so with the good controller (much faster and reliable) then when it come for mainstream production they switched out the controller for a much inferior, slower and unreliable one. So reviewers all got the good ones, shilled it to the consumers, then when the consumers bought them they got these really slow pieces of junk. At first Kingston tried to blame it on the benchmarking software then it was realised that the controller had been switched on them. Then Kingston pretty much just covers it all up, pays reviewers and the alike to not say anything, they even delete comments on their social sites about it.

Its one of the cheapest ssd available.
Bought one for my mom's old HP workstation.
Only has sata 2 but the switch from an old hdd to a ssd gave new live to the pc.

How much faster is it compared to a baracuda hdd
>>
>>51557796
I'm running the host OS of my server on it, since I didn't feel like spending a lot on a drive that is bound to fail sooner or later.

I've used it 24/7 for the past 10 months and if you can trust the SMART information it's still at 93% health. Speaking of SMART information, it's extremely annoying that it keeps jumping like:
97% --> 96% --> 97% --> 96% --> 97% --> 96% --> 95% --> 96% etc.

For the VMs I spent a little more and got the BX100 since I have shittons of reads/writes and everything is random i/o.

Anyhow the SSD is certainly not the fastest, but it's fine. Also if possible get a 250GB version since they are typically a lot fafter than the 120GB ones.
>>
>>51557796
Are they really that bad?
They are $32 anyway in mexico.
>>
>>51558189
It's tons faster than an HDD and always worth the investment.

You will notice the different from SSD to any HDD. You won't notice the difference between SSDs in day to day stuff.

It's good enough for an OS and everyday use since even these speeds are faster compared to an HDD. But it's abysmal speed compared to Crucial or Plextor. If you're getting it cheap, make damn sure it's cheap.

>>
>>51558323
How exactly do you read the values on current/worst/threshold?
>>
>>51559115
Worth it. A Kingston V300 is like a GTX 970 at this point, it's hardware gimped.
>>
>>51557872
A couple of reviewers on youtube talked about this and removed their reviews.
>>
>>51559115
The cheapest Sandisks don't have a dram cache and don't reach the rated speeds on the box.
My sandisk z400s doesn't go past 180mb/s sequential write speeds.
>>
>>51559116
It's crystal disk info, not crystal disk mark.
CDI is used for monitoring (it can send e-mails on status change), while CDM is for benchmarking.

There are plenty of ways to read SMART information though, I've meant to switch from CDI and set up the SMART monitoring on the PRTG network monitor.
>>

GTX 3.5GB is an accidental hardware problem, v300 is intentional.

They also have this 240GB for $60

>>
>>51559187
That's no accident, it's intentional.
>>
>>51559175
What if im not looking for write speeds but read speeds, will it keep the 450MB/s speeds?
>>
Lets say i use a SSD for main OS, and then i put a program to run in the same SSD, how the performance will be affected?

Should i have a SSD for the OS only and another for programs instead?
>>
>>51559116
oh I think I might have misunderstood your question.

Well, current is the current state, worst is the worst recorded state and threshold will be the point where monitoring software will scream at you to switch the drive.
As for the values, it depends. Some are easily understandable but there are some where only vendor knows what it means. Most vendors will have a chart with explanations when you google the information ID.

e.g. you want to know what E6 Life Curve Status means:
https://code.google.com/p/hddguardian/wiki/SandForce_SMART_attributes
>A life curve used to help predict life in terms of the endurance based on the number of writes to flash.

In my case it's 100 current, 100 worst, 0 threshold. Meaning that you will never get a red warning (since theshold is 0) and the worst value is the current value which is 100, so it's all good.
>>
>not getting a PCIe SSD

full fucking plebs
>>
>>51559319
performance won't be affected
>>
>>51559319
Barely any bad effect. Photoshop CS6 still loads in 1 second here in the same SSD with OS installed.
>>
>>51559351
Yeah keep wasting your money and PCIe slots. Actually a buddy of mine spent 800€ on this and is still loading slower than me, since I have the texture folders as junctions on RAMdisk.
>>
>>51559348
Thanks anon. Just wondering because the threshold on my SSD for Reallocation Event Count also says "3" the same as this other anon. >>51558323

The 10 on that threshold, similar to mine, probably means 10 years, doesn't it.
>>
>>51559374
>>51559377
I see, thanks.

Then what about using a SSD for programs while the OS is in the HDD?
>>
>>51559459
HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUR BRAIN? USE GOOGLE YOU DUMB SHIT

the fact people would even discuss a fucking 120gb ssd as something worth buying shows how retarded this place is considering how fucking superior all you idiots try seem
>>
>>51559433
You are welcome and other anon is me as well.

The 10 on that is likely percent based though, but since I've lost like 7 percent in 10 months you might not be too far off with 10 years.
>>
>>51557796

DO NOT BUY THIS

I REPEAT - DO. NOT. BUY. THIS.

Its crap and it will fail in the 6-18 months period.
>>
>>51559481
I am googling meanwhile i ask, i was planning to buy a sandisk ultra 2 480GB.

I'm a different anon than the one asking for the 120GB SSD.
>>
>>51559459
you really want your os on the ssd, m8
>>
>>51559481
Uhm, 120gb is the ideal size for a throwaway drive, so it won't hurt when it finally dies. And yes I am aware that it's slower than a 250GB drive of the same model.
Also other might not have the money to get something better.

>>51559549
If you can get a BX100 for a similar amount get that, especially if you buy a large SSD anyway.

>>
>>51559909
what seems to be the problem?

I consider it acceptable, considering it never gets shut down. It pretty much means that the SSD will live for about 10 years. So what's the problem?

If you are talking about it saying 94%, that's because it's jumping up and down by 1% twice a week as I said in my initial post
>>
>>51560611
My Crucial M4's at ~87% after 29744 near-continuous power on hours.Hoping to retire her from OS service in favour of an M.2 SSD soon though.

>>
>>51560700

>>
>>51560813
not on that laptop. i'm planning on using it to learn coding.
>>
>>51560659
My M4 is still awesome as well (sadly not at home at the moment to make a screenshot since I have no RDP and wake on LAN on my desktop). It also was like 280 euro?

This however is 40 euro drive which I put in a server which actually has actual continuous writes while you let it idle all day? It's a big difference since the MLC gets used all the time all over the place, even though it's just small writes. There's a reason why server grade stuff uses SLC.

So yeah, use that M4 as host drive in a server for a year and then we can talk some more. Just look at the other dude here >>51559618 being still at 100% after half the time when I dropped 1% after the first 5 weeks.

But yeah M4s are great and I sort of regret not getting two M4s for my desktop instead of that one Adata SPGX (which was like 30% more expensive and slowed down quite a bit).

Is there actually a great deal of difference between any of the brands? Ignoring shit like kingston getting caught fucking with controllers, each brand seems to offer a premium line with a warranty to go with a 30-50% price increase and their lower line for scrooges.
