Is this the future /g/? Instead of buying a new Android phone every 1-2 years we just upgrade the storage instead?
It has always been the future.
Who buys a new phone just for more storage? Plus micro sds have been around for years and years
nobody's buying new android phones just for storage. the battery capacity diminishes over time as a function of use, the requirements placed on the CPU and RAM get higher every day, and at some point when you think the device is safely sliding into your pocket it will in fact be just outside your pocket, and when you let go it'll hit concrete and physically break.
i know a handful of people who have smartphones with removable memory slots. none of them ever uses it except as a last-checkpoint customization option - that is, they buy a memory card when they get the phone and then they put it in and that's the last time they ever think about it. which one they get is determined by how much memory is and how much they're willing to spend. i've even asked people if they've ever swapped cards out, and i don't think anyone has ever said yes (some people try to build up a defense as if in anticipation, saying shit like "no BUT I COULD and that matters a lot to me in a phone").
