i did google this first but with windows 10 it seems like there is a lot of misinformation or abnormalities

so here goes

i currently have an i5 4690k and a matching board, windows 10

i have an i7 6700k and matching board on their way to my house via newegg.

presuming i drop in the new hardware, there will likely be some driver issues between boards but utilizing tools like driver sweeper and the like i don't forsee a problem there, but my question is, will windows deactivate? i have a legit upgrade from a previous 7 install/build

i'm not entirely sure how the 'free upgrade' program works in regards to whether i actually own the license or key.

please and thanks

Alright, /sqt/, so I've been getting these issues ever since I got a new GPU in my PC. On startup, my PC often crashes and requires several restarts to boot properly.
On certain occasions, applications become unstable, such as Google Chrome, or Steam, malfunctioning or simply not wanting to open.
Pic related, it's a blue screen I took a day or two ago, the blue screen error varies.
>>
>>55051872
Does it still do it if you remove the new GPU?
Run memtest
>>
>>55051905
It didn't happen before the new GPU
I actually couldn't hook up the new GPU with the cables that came with it, so instead, I unplugged the cables from my GTX 580, and into my new GPU.
>>
>>55051927
Just because it didn't happen before the new GPU doesn't mean you didn't fuck something up installing it

How does the game controller manage to power on the console when it's turned off? Is it always listening for some particular on signal even when "off" to accomplish this? Does it sip power to do so?

I dunno m8, but you're getting a memory error and problems generally not directly related to a GPU so I told you to test your memory and you seemed to ignore it.

I put my new build in my newegg shopping cart last night, figured I'd think it over for a day.

Today I come back to buy but the refurb motherboard has sold out (msi 970). There are no other great motherboards for around that price ($60), and the new-in-box is $98.

which is retarded because at that price I'd just buy a board with the 990 chipset instead, which would be an upgrade

question is: do you think newegg will stock another refurb msi 970?

>>
>>55051872
could be a problem with your hard drive (maybe your SSD is starting to go haywire)

the problem could be completely separate from your GPU and just be your hard drive, maybe ur PC is having trouble booting from that hard drive

I was being a retard today and fucking around inside my case while my computer was on. I accidentally shorted something. PC turned off when I booted it back up it gave me a CMOS error and bumped me to my UEFI bios. I closed that without making any changes and then it booted up and has been running normally all day. What should my trouble shooting process be? Somebody recommended resetting my bios but I don't want to set up my boot order and all that if there are other options that might be an easier fix.

>>
For some reason, my computer has been freezing and then turning off automatically starting today. When it powers off, it tries to turn itself back on. Strangely, it powers up, turns on the fans, but then powers down before the POST beep until it eventually gets it.

I doubt it's the graphics card, as games run smoothly at max settings with 120 FPS with no artifacting or anything abnormal. It's probably not RAM related since those problems don't tend to cause immediate crashes that lead into a restart without some sort of log. Device Manager and Event Viewer don't show anything that lead to software issues.

It MIGHT be the PSU, but I'd figure a PSU problem would involve shit just turning off completely. Sometimes, my computer hangs with looped audio forever until I forcefully turn it off. It MIGHT be an overheating issue, but I don't know why it'd start today. My temps tend to hang around 50C and don't get anywhere near the auto-shutoff point unless speedfan is lying to me.

I know /g/ isn't techsupport, but advice to where and how I can diagnose this issue would be neat.
>>
>>55052319
>it booted up and has been running normally all day

So the problem is resolved is what you are saying here, right?

>What should my trouble shooting process be?

Uhm, I dont get it. It boots up and runs normally, what is there to troubleshoot exactly?
>>
>>55052380
I was doing redoing cable management after I cleaned out my case and one of my SATA cables popped loose and hit my 980 and the computer shut off.
>>55052453
It's still giving me a CMOS error every time I boot up but there doesn't seem to be anything affected after I exit the BIOS.
>>
>>55052442

Sounds terribly mobo related. Check all the standoffs and mount points to make sure you aren't shorting out.

If it's clear, then you can replace one component at a time to see what resolves it. Hopefully you have some recent builds with similar enough components.

Don't rule out the RAM quite yet, that shit can be, how do you say - irrational- to diagnose at times.
>>
>>55052474
>It's still giving me a CMOS error every time I boot up

Try doing a cmos reset jumper or switch once, but otherwise you might want to reseat EVERYTHING and run through ALL the bios settings once
>>
>>55052497
I suppose it's not impossible for it to be the RAM. I'll run Memtest overnight, which should tackle quite a few problems. If my PC randomly turns off during Memtest, that'll narrow things down a bit. And then I'll open the case and cleans shit out.
>>
>>55052515
Alright I'll do that tomorrow, thanks for your time.

You want to take the subs from one video and put them into another video? Is that right? Not subs that are separate from the video?

I know how to do the latter, and I know how you could split the subs from the original video that contains subs. There is definitely some way of getting the subs out but I cannot be fucked trying to work it out.

You would end up with something like this except somehow stripping the audio and video from the file that contains the subs.
ffmpeg -threads 2 -i %1 -i %2 -vcodec copy -acodec copy "%~n1.mkv"

FreeNAS is not intented to be anything but a NAS. Everything is way more complicated on BSD. If you want something more than that foolproof dumb appliance OS, you should learn how to make a general purpose GNU/Linux bistro function as a NAS. You're probably not dealing with enough files to see much benefit from ZFS anyway.

And you shouldn't host your email on a lone server on a residential connection because it's too unreliable for something people expect to have 100% uptime. Find somewhere else to point your domain. I'm using a grandfathered gratis Google Apps account, but you may need to find something else if you don't want to pay.

tasksel, install lamp/web server

make site.

No one will visit it. Your ISP will get upset if too many do. And VPS/hosting can cost less than powering a desktop at home.

def run_game():

while True:

for event in pygame.event.get():
if event.type == pygame.QUIT:
sys.exit()

pygame.display.flip()

run_game()

But I keep getting

Any advice?

If there's no settings for than in Premiere, ffmpeg can do it. It's best to set it to high compression on the first encode instead of doing it twice. You lose disproportionately more quality for the same size reduction if doing it with more than one operation.

Why Premiere Pro and not Sony Vegas Pro?

Simply booted Mint two days ago, wanted to browse the internet, and it gave me no internet error. After trying a lot of terminal commands, reinstalling drivers, reseting my router, flushing cache, flushing DNS et cetera, nothing fixed it. Tried to restart, and I couldn't even login in it. So I nuked the installation already, and now I search for another distro (tbqh regretted installing Mint from start, but I went with it).

That's a short post regarding the problems. I had many more that I fixed.

Debian Sid is a good balance between bleeding edge and being able to use your computer as a tool. But you don't miss out on much with a point release like Ubuntu. Debian has a bit less pre-configured and worky-worky, and you'll end up making most of it nearly the same as Ubuntu's defaults.
>>

Fedora looks nice, also Ubuntu Mate looks good enough. What should I install?
>>
>>55055773
Mate is a fork of GNOME 2 for baby ducks who can't adapt to any change, and wastes a ton of vertical space. Unity really is the best interface if your computer is powerful enough for it to not stutter. On systems that can't, like my Chromebook/Crouton, I like XFCE as my terminal launcher.

Fedora is really annoying to use because its official repositories are tiny so you have to add a bunch of third party shit. But it can be good practice if you're a Hufflepuff destined for system administration and will be dealing with RHEL/CentOS.

>I also want a new CPU, what do I need to know if I want one that's compatible with my current set up?
Motherboard type needs to support CPU type, example LGA 1151 supports LGA 1151, which is skylake 6600, 6700 and future ones

>Can someone explain SSD better than the Wikipedia page? Why are they being sold with an additional HDD while having a smaller amount of memory (~250GB)
SSD is just a HDD which has no moving parts, so it can load really fast, usually 2/3x the speed of a normal HDD, but expensive in comparison. Most people use them for installing the operating system on 120gb drives
>Can I change my motherboard and still keep all my data?
Idk what you even mean by this, you mean plug your current HDD/SSD into a new motherboard? Then yes. You might have to get a new copy of windows though 'cuz when you change a huge amount of things windows might deactivate

When you build something, you first decide a budget and the purpose of it. Then the steps are :
>pick a CPU
>pick a mobo compatible with the CPU (look at the socket)
>Make sure the mobo have everything you want (usb 3.0, M.2 port for some kind of SSD, number of fans (even if that's not the most important), capable of SLI or crossfire if you want to use two GPU, and if you want to OC you should pick it carefuly but if you're a noob you should play with that and care of it).
>pick a GPU
>pick a HDD (avoid seagate)
>pick the RAM
>pick a PSU from a good brand (evga, be quiet, corsair...). And take one certified 80+, bronze, silver or gold. To know which power you need use a calculator like the one be quiet provide.

SSD are flash memory compared to the HDD which are mechanical. They are less prone to failure technically and are faster than the HDD. But it's a more recent technology so they cost more. That's the reason people buy 250GB SSD, they only cost 70€ compared to the 1TB SSD that are too expansive

>Can I change my motherboard and still keep all my data?
your data are on your HDD or SSD so yes you can.

>Suggest a gaming mouse?
>>>/v/

But you should just go to logical increment, read, and pick a build directly there and adjust it to your needs.

Get intel for gaming, way better performance.

Gaming on an AMD CPU is horrible honestly, you get CPU bottlenecked all the time because most games won't use half your cores.

So many games require good single core performance and AMD sucks at that.

Just plugged in two fans to my computer. They're both three pin connectors but my motherboard has only four pins. I read somewhere that those are incompatible but my friend says it would work.

Anyway, the one fan that is visible has a very very low rpm, like it tries to have an rpm of 1 but it fails so it just bounces back and forth.

In speedfan i see Fan1 and fan2 which i figure is CPU fan and another one with 4 pin. So i guess none of my fans work and that is because connector mismatch.

Am i right here?
