Dunno yet, 250 bench moved like ass, missed a rep on the last set, I couldn't get tight/my ass would fly up on the last rep of each set, and the bar path was shit. Considering I was running on 3-4 hours of sleep and did VD squats with little issue, ~20 minutes faster than usual, I can't really complain much. Hoping for 145x3x5 ohp tomorrow and I dunno what my sumo deadlift will be, depends on how I feel. Might just reattempt 335x5 again, might go for 375x5. Switch to low bar, or work on ankle mobility. You have waaaaaay too much forward lean for high bar. In fact, even with ankle mobility, unless you're oly lifting, low bar will be better for you because of long(ish) torso and femurs.

Depth was at least two inches above parallel as well. Work on that, try and find a stretch reflex at the bottom with your bodyweight squat, then translate that bounce into your regular back squat. There is no point to training partial ROM if you are trying to get stronger.

Forward lean was excessive there, not sure what happened. Probably breakdown under high load.

I've only recently switched to high bar to help alleviate some shoulder issues. I'll give low bar another run soon to see if my mobility work has helped out some.

Guess I could always high bar for volume training and then low bar it for the more maximal attempts. I have no issues staying a lot more vertical with sub maximal loads.


Trappy, as per your comment about ankle mobility and oly shoes. I just ordered a pair of adidas powerlifting 2.0. Not much of a heel on them, but hopefully enough.

First pair of athletic shoes I've ever purchased that weren't nikes. But the Romalos were too expensive to buy on a whim, especially as I don't weightlifting. Fuck, I've never even tried doing a Hanpull over 80kg before.

The one where you put the barbell on top of the knees is pretty excellent - and these things really do make a bit difference.

But yeah as others have said, the ankle mobility requirement for lowbar is lower. But that doesn't mean you NEED to switch, if you improve it a bit with stretching and with the new shoes you should be able to have a good highbar squat.

Yeah. I'Ve been slack with my mobility work of late, other than shoulders and thoracic area.

The shoes I've wanted for awhile. I'm lifting in plimsolls and they aren't th sturdiest haha. So the higher heel is just a bonus.

I'm not sure how long I'm going to stick with high bar regardless of if I can perfect my form. It's just a way to continue high frequency squatting without aggravating my shoulder issue.


I think I'll try sitting between my legs, rather then sitting back/arse out. Opening up the taint seems important to ed coan, and he's the man. I'll do what that big Ol' spherical head tells me.
