How many times have you done the roll of shame , /fit/?

Why do people at the gym freak out when you fail your last bench rep and do it?

I just did it the 2nd time in my life on my last rep of last set of 225. (been out of the gym for 3 weeks)

I've never done the fucking roll of shame because I use a rack and set the safeties. I lower my chest, the safeties catch the bar, and I slide out. It's not difficult.

you shouldn't do the roll of shame since it may hurt your intestines, especially as your bench gets heavier. instead, use the safeties of the power cage, or ditch the safety clips so you could pivot the bar on your chest to drop the weights off.

i usually have a spotter but i failed my last rep alone yesterday and had set up the safeties to slide out.

Just don't put the clips on the side and dump it off. As long as you aren't benching 315+ it shouldn't be too much of an issue. You can also just let it sit on your chest and loudly speak for someone to help you out.

Well there is either usually enough people around that if you say "Could someone help me out" loudly but firm someone will help you. If there aren't many people around then just dump the damn weight. I think you can only get away with rolling the weight off you if you are more on the chubby side. If you were my weight (160 5'11) and I were to try and roll 235lb across my body I would probably eternally combust.

I had an embarrassing moment when I was in college.

I usually used my home gym and bench in the rack with the catchers but for reasons out of my control I didn't have access to my home gym. Went to bench at my university at the time and the first set I missed the last rep and was going to do the roll of shame. A couple of guys nearby ran over and pulled it off of me. I said thanks obviously and that I was going to roll it. All he said was "you almost had it." Lmao just kind of humiliating. I also had 2 more sets after that and had to lower the weight.

If you're having trouble locking it out just yell "HELP!!!!!!!"

Was doing to-failure sets with 25lb plates late in my session (yeah I know my bench sucks if I have to use 25lb plates, that's why I do it)

Guy jerks the bar from me when I get to failure, startled the shit out of me. Not only have I done the roll of shame a dozen times, but there is a low rack on the bench I was about to put the bar on.

I could understand helping if I was trying to bench 225, but let me at least try bro. Fucker.

I don't understand the logic of the safeties though... they're naturally below your chest because a full ROM has to be lowered down to your chest, so the bar never actually reaches them

Hasnt happened yet to me but it happened to some dude yesterday

Not on lifts that could kill or physically harm me.
I often have a spotter so I can push myself fine.

Deadlifting is easy to push on, but I'm not going to push too hard on jerks/cleans.
Squatting is easy to push on because of the safety bars.
Bench entirely depends on the bench rack, but here most of them aren't in a cage and are 100% free form, so it's not easy to push by yourself on.

I would rather go up slowly than push myself and end up doing more harm than good.
