So, I moved into a new place and it doesn't have a dishwasher. Its an old house so theres no space to put a built-in. Plus it would be a ton of work and the cabinets are very nice so I don't want to fuck them up, but its a very nice size kitchen. Plenty of floor space to have a freestanding dishwasher like they used back in the day (pic related). Problem is I can't seem to find just a freestanding dishwasher. They are either meant to be built-in, are undersized 'portable' models on wheels or are tiny little counter top models made for forever alones. Do they not make these anymore? And I searching for the wrong terms?
>>
Just wash your dishes in the sink, dunkass.
>>
>>990098
This, are you really that lazy?
>>
>>990079
just get a regular dishwasher and use longer hoses for the water hookup? discharge into the sink?
>>
>>990079
>>990101
"regular dishwasher" doesn't have sides. Since it goes under the counter.

You could use a built-in and fabricate an enclosure for it though. Use the same wood/finish as your nice cabinets. Building a wooden box doesn't sound too hard.
>>
>>990108
>"regular dishwasher" doesn't have sides.
a minor technicality

won't it still wash dishes?
>>
>>990112
got no sides, it will spray water everywhere, anon.
'freestanding dishwasher' should get what you need? Or as >>990108, regular and freestanding IKEA cabinet or build one, done - not seeing the problem here, desu.
>>
>>990112
OP here. A built in dishwasher has no sides or top and is covered in insulation. Pic related. So you can't put anything on top of it and its ugly as hell. You also have the problem of it tipping forward when you open it and roll the racks out. Its made to be secured to a cabinet and will tip forward otherwise.

>>990108
Thats an option but I would rather have a more drop in solution.

>>990101
Running to the hookups wont be a problem as it will be going right next to the sink.
>>
>>990119
>freestanding dishwasher
OP again. First rule of DIY is google it first. I searched but I'm not finding anything pertinent. Its all either portable models or countertop models.
>>
>>990122
Thought the first rule of DIY is that you do it yourself, why not just do it yourself? Why do you need a dishwasher? What's wrong with washing dishes by hand?
>>
>>990123
A dish washer is a tool. Since when does DIY object to someone wanted to buy the right tool to get the job done faster an easier? How is it different from getting a table saw or a drill press? You can do anything those tools can do by hand also.
>>
>>990124
I'd like to see you drill into wood using nothing but your hands, put it on youtube.
>>
>>990124
You know why dishwashers were made? IT's not because it's easier (it's not) it's not because it's quicker (it's not) they were made because they were safer (for the dishes) the creator found that her servants were always chipping her dishes, so she did the job herself, and then she found that she would chip them, so then she invented the dishwasher.

Now unless you're eating off some delicate ass dishes, you don't need a dishwasher, it's quicker and just as easy to do it by hand, what's the point wasting time and money on a dishwasher when all it takes is a minute in a water filled sink to get a better result?

what you need to do, move to Bongoland, then set your PC language to German, then google 'freestanding dishwasher' - follow these steps exactly, you get 440,000 odd results (Pic Related) - why you get none - Burgerland? - idk?

Not arguing about the principle either BTW, 'install' dishwashers are indeed the ones with visible insulation - 'freestanding' really does have sides-n-stuff tho.

And I'd like to see you wash dishes with just your hands. No water, soap or sponge. Those are tools and if I can't use a hand saw or an eggbeater drill when doing something by hand then you can use any tools either.
>>
>>990129
Hey man, I'm surprised you don't send your maid out to drill a hole for you.
>>
>>990127
Welp, thats the fucking problem. You are right. I go to google.co.uk and I get tons of results for freestanding dishwasher but in the USA all I get is portable and countertop models. I tried searching all of the local appliances places with websites too. Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, Orchard, Best Buy, Frys, a couple of manufactures websites too. None have what I need.
>>
>>990079
If you have the floorspace, why not buy a counter dishwasher and make yourself an island to go around it? That way it looks nice and you have more countertop space.(plus I think islands are very nice to eat or serve food at)

Its a galley kitchen. So its long and narrow with no space for an island. It does have a section that used to have a washer and dryer in it and thats where I'm putting the dishwasher. Its right next to the sink so the hookups are all there. Thing is, I need a full sized dishwasher. I would be running the countertop models every night to keep up with demand. Portables are also on the small size and I have no need of the wheels or their extra cost with less features. Its seems though that stand alone washers are just unavailable in the US anymore.
>>
Rinse all your dishes with hot water and a brush. Stack them neatly on the bench until you're ready to wash them.
>>
>>990079
just buy a regular dishwasher and throw it into your garage...

Portable dishwasher. enclosed in a metal cabinet with wheels and a butcher block top. hooks to the faucet/drains into your sink.

probably too big for your kitchen though
>>
You only need a dishwasher if you have children, desu.
>>
>>990271
Sadly I have no garage, only a carport. It still doesn't solve the problem though. I have room for it in the kitchen I just don't have a cabinet to put it in. >>990121

>>990273
Yes, I know about them, as I stated in my first post. They do not suit my needs. Please read the thread.
>>
>>990121
>a more drop in solution
drop in to what?

you already said you were not satisfied with the common options available; look for a dishwasher, make a base and shell with plywood, paint it if desired
>>
>>990273
This is actually a full sized dishwasher, OP. It's what you asked for, except it has wheels you might have to remove, and you'd have to plumb it for your purposes, which can't be that hard. Closest you'll get from the sound of your Google search.
>>
>>990098
>>990100
>>990123
Dishwashers are a useful addition in quality terms, because detergent rinses out more thoroughly than soap.
>>
>>990275
The children are your dishwashers, if you're smart

Buy a sponge, a dishcloth, and some soap, and wash dishes like a normal human being you uptight spoilt poofter.

>>
>>990079
Oh, ohkay. I think I got the problem now.

Why the darn don't you just build a cabinet for a regular one?I mean the plumbing is an issue but if you'd thought about using the same floor space for it anyways, just make a little house for a regular dishwasher to live in. Maybe match the countertop, or contrast or whatever. You could be fancy and buy an IKEA-solution if you're really creatively lazy. Just buy one of the kitchen cupboards that fit your disher.

The claims that doing dishes by hand is in any way equally time consuming as loading and unloading a machine is complete, utter and absolute bullshit. It takes me ten minutes to do each action, but doing the same amount of dishes by hand takes literally hours.

And I can only clean flat surfaces reliably. If it's a whisk or something with a texture that isn't from wear or tear, it's a nightmare to clean by hand.
>>
Here in Europe, professional dishwashers for restaurant kitchens and the like are freestanding. They have a nice stainless steel finish usually, and you could easily enclose them in wood. Maybe you can find a used unit?
>>
Are you too dumb to use quotes when you search?

Christ, newfags.

>Are you too dumb to use quotes when you search?
Are you too dumb to look at those results? Outside of a few articles reviewing portable dishwashers they are all links to sellers in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. OP already said they are in the states.
>>
ayy - Burgers, your country is in a state, and no mistake.

Just spent 30 minutes trying to prove OP wrong, truly, only mini/portable or built-in avail. - wtf, where did it all go wrong, America?
Figure its down to cultural differences - 'EU standalone dishwasher' = 'US garbage disposal unit' as dishes (McDs cartons) all disposable anyway.

Guess better idea would be asking >>>/ck/ - or, go round a few specialist appliance/kitchen shops with diagrams and plans, wave your arms around a lot, maybe get lucky:
> "you want *big* portable, but with no wheels, yes? - but then, is not portable?"
Goddamn, srsly.

I used to work in the kitchen of a Texmex place in South London, no way the burned on cheese would come off by hand. Those lever up, steam out, top raise commercial beasts do a proper job.

They also use 3-phase power connectors and 90+ degree water to comply with EU demands for professional hygiene.

>>991182
Look up Hobart if you want to buy a used but good one. I've used Hobarts a couple years, no problem so far. Generally easy to disassemble clean and service too.

Pic related is what I want when I build my own house. Fuck that shit with prissy wood and fucking doilies, kitchens are laboratories and should be held to the same standard of hygiene. Steel is the only alternative, unless someone makes it probable to me that concrete can be made entirely waterproof.

I just can't be arsed to even CONSIDER casting something in my kitchen, if the option is a sheet of steel I can literally degrease with a flamethrower and swap out in ten minutes if it's beyond repair.
>>
Get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, a pickle bucket.
Dump the dishes in it along with soap and water.
Put the lid on tight and roll it down the hill.
Done.

This makes me so happy to see.

OP, you're looking for an LXIH. They come in 120v for household use. It will wash with your incoming hot water, and heat a little above that. There are alternatives, but I've found that our dishwashers look the best for home use. Hooks up exactly like a standard dishwasher, but washes in about 5 minutes.

Also, my opinion is very biased. Pic related.
>>
>>991385
Are you in Germany? That's a German (or EU) Hobart version of our AM15. Very cool looking, never seen one in person. Have you used it?

No, sorry. Mountain monkey here.

I've worked at a handful of different hotel kitchens and they all had much larger "full auto" machines like pic related. I found that one of the better parts of being a dishwasher with that machine was that I always tried to keep up with the machine, as it pulls the trays about two inches at a time into the machine.

>>991470
From the vid I found it looked like the LXi line was discontinued and replaced with LXe, but I have no idea if that's just a misunderstanding...

Also, really cool that you saw the post, considering haha.
>>
>>991470
The undercounter ones look like hell on the back muscles though, considering I would usually load the trays outside of the machine. Lifting from 20 cm above floor to 80 cm above floor several times in a day sound like really bad ergonomics :/
>>
>>991485
What? Hobart guy here again, I had one in my garage for a while. I left the rack in 24/7 and loaded it like a standard dishwasher. The only downside is the price. If it's not a Craigslist deal, it will be over 800$.
>>
>>991484
They're discontinued, and the LXe is the shit. But I remove around 2 a week from various places, mostly Starbucks. Many, many places will be refurbishing them for resale. Also, another alternative is the SR22.
>>
>>990273

I had one of these a few years ago. Full sized and worked well enough. Sold it to the landlord when I moved.

I'm not really sure what OPs problem is with this.
>>
>>990504
This is exactly what I have done. Replaced the shitty laminate top, too...
>>
Scanned the thread, not sure what the problem is? If you can afford it, why not have a dishwasher? It will steam sanitize your dishes, which is better than just water + soap.

I had some relatives that had a freestanding one at some point (here in USA) and it worked, but it was real fuckin' loud - no cabinetry or whatever to dampen the sound.

Literally found a bunch just by going to Home Depot's website and looking under "Dishwashers - portable:.

http://www.homedepot.com/b/Appliances-Dishwashers-Portable-Dishwashers/N-5yc1vZc3p1/Ntk-SemanticSearch/Ntt-dishwasher?Ntx=mode+matchall&NCNI-5
>>
>>991900
>Scanned the thread,
Op has said several times he doesn't want a portable, but a free standing normal dishwasher like in his original image. While they are common overseas they aren't for sale in the USA anymore for some reason.
>>
>>991150
Uh, no. Detergent is just soap sans the foaming agent (usually a sulfate). You can wash your dishes in the sink with dishwasher liquid/tabs if you must.
>>
>>992265
OP seems to want to stay disappointed. Perhaps he should make a buddy overseas, and have them FedEx one over to him...
>>
geez, I've seen several people posting on CL giving away working dishwashers to whoever wants to come pick it up

whatever it might cost to make a simple case for it would be far less than buying something new...if you really want to make this happen, it's more than reasonably possible and without spending two arms
