The dress thing had nothing to do with screen calibration. No one's monitor is bad enough to make blue look like gold. It was all just a matter of perception, this is why you got two people looking at the same screen and see two different things.
You are right though, having a photo from some anons mobile phone and displayed on another anons random ass monitor means that getting an accurate guess at what colour it is is impossible.

Get a paint chip or sample of whatever it is and take it to your local paint store, they can scan it in for you and get a much better opinion on what colour it is than random people on /diy/
Could be eggshell or some other off white. Painter for 26 years, but also am starting to lose my touch on paint color so perhaps not. Good luck mate.
