I have a swamp cooler where the pump will only function if i suck on the hose first, then it will work fine. Does anyone know why it wouldn't be able to start pumping itself. i don't think its airlocked because the pump is under the cooler and the cooler fills each time its started.
Any ideas?

Might be that the capacitor to the pump motor is shot and you have to get it spinning before it will start on its own. Pull the fucker out and see if it will turn when under no load. If not, and it starts spinning if you help it a bit then its probably a bad cap or centrifugal switch.

Is there any damaged seals on the impeller housing? The smallest leak to allow any air admittance will stop the pump from priming itself.

if the MOTOR of the pumo is running but the water isnt FLOWING the capacitor has fuckasl to do with this, it sounds like a pump issue... could be a bad seal or issue with the impeller, or a possible air leak somewhere which is preventing the pump from creating a suction
Is it the right voltage? A 220 pump will run on 110, but wont push the water high enough.
