Cheap/ easy ways to soundproof / at least dampen the sound traveling through bedroom door? Door has gaps on all sides, and is flush with the wall. Pic not my door but similar.
you need mass. egg crate and that won't help.
you need a solid core door. if your door is a cheap hollow shit, you have to replace it.
then add some adhesive-backed rubber stripping around the jamb. pile pillows in front of the crack at the floor.

A floor runner would help, it's a narrow carpet used often in hallways.
A hollow core door has wood reinforcement around the edges and hollow in the middle and not so good at sound proofing.
Ask if you can screw one onto the door before you buy one, they come in different sizes, you'll have to look around for one to cover the door.
A sheet of insulation board would do it too and probably better and probably cheaper. Again you'd have to securely anchor it with some screw's so be sure and ask first rather than burn bridges.
If there is a door store near you you could offer to replace the door with a similar one that is 'b' grade (cosmetic mostly missed) just take the old one in and have them match it for the lock and hinges, for pretty cheap as apposed to a brand new one. -that's when you're moving out.

Actually you should stop by and see if they have a cheap solution for you or at least some industry knowledge about it. Maybe replace the door now with one with a foam filled one and keep the old one. Honestly they'd probably have some better ideas about doors.

Thanks for reply, how do I know if I have a hollow door? Also as I said unfortunately I cannot do anything to do the door as its not my house. I do know that the cracks around the frame let sound through though. Any way to block those up for cheap?

I mean if you are going to approach it the dumb way, go get a sheet of 1inch MDF and the fluffiest comforter you can find. Staple the comforter to the MDF. Place it over the door. Cut a hole for the knob.
You're really not going to get something much better than that unless you want to spend a ton on a thick rubber sheet and the means to hang it.

I've had the same problem, OP, and I can tell you that filling the gaps will not be good enough. Like the other posters have suggested, you need mass to block the vibrations. Sorry there's no cheap, easy answer - the bookshelf idea might be work though if you have one of that description.
