Lasercutted this and other stuff for a fun this week, but im looking for some even more ideas on how i can apply lasercutting and make some really practical things. What are your suggestions? Also, a general laser cutting thread if you want.
Make a Smokenator for a BBQ kettle.

Find old cross cut saw blades, cut knife blanks out of them.

Check this.
I made this the other day.

What is that?
What material is that
Is it your own laser cutter?
How much did it cost?
My farther has two half a million pound Trumf machines and he;s charging me £200 base price just to use one.
Thinking of buying a CNC plasma.

Not OP, but trumpf lasers are nice. My company has the 3030 fiberoptic.

Utility knife mounted on a DC moror. Great idea anon! What could go wrong?

Burial (music artists) logo. It costed me nothing actually, I work at university's engineering center, so I can freely cut stuff in a spare time from a spare metal sheets.

Thanks guys. Really nice ideas, sadly I don't have bbq kettle, so gonna try one about cutting the knife blank.

>daddy why do you have such a big nose
>>943145
> £200
lol holy shit
Yeah, buy your own.
>>943145
why is it so expensive? he's your father after all, why woould he charge you?
>>943145
btw forgot to mention the material i was using is a steel 40 (approx. 0.4% carbon)

He built the company from scratch, from massive debt.

£500,000
I aint got half a million, I do have £23,000 and a cnc plasma cutter with a kurf of 1.3mm if around £6,000, i'm considering it.

The local companies who laser cut for a living, their base price is £125. My farther lasers run 24/7 so it would take his staffs time, and the gasses used, and that also includes the cost of the metal sheet. He does give me deformed sheets and scrap metal, a slightly concave sheet is still worth £40 scrap but I get it free, including any offcuts, or centres/scrap.

My farther only uses C67 0.67% my friends' asked me to make him a knife.
>>943615
>I aint got half a million
>CNC plasma
They are only like $5k and up. Or, you know, make your own laser cutter.
>>943618
Please point me to a place where I can but a 4kw laser from for under 5,000USD
>>943008
>What are your suggestions?
I designed a Figure9 hook recently. The commercially available ones are from aluminium only, so real steel or even stainless steel might be really cool. I could upload .dxf if interested.
Swastika throwing stars.

you have a nice handwriting.

I no plasma is not a laser you fucknut, but it's a 50 of the price and does the same job, the downsides to plasma are the kurf and the cleanlinesses of the cut, which could be tided up anyway.
I know it doesn't cost much to build a table, I was asking for someone to point me towards a laser, someone said you could buy a laser for around $5k.
This is bullshit.
A 4kw laser is at least £30,000, that's just the laser, I would need gasses, the chiller and other shit.
>inb4 you don't need gasses with fibre
Fibre is more expensive the CO2
>>944330
You are an ignorant cunt.
>>944330
Also just read the pdf
>implying I don't already own plasma cutter
>implying I wouldn't buy a hypertherem for a cnc machine
just fuck off.

>implying I don't already own plasma cutter
see >>943145
>Thinking of buying a CNC plasma.
Your story is on shaky ground, kid.
>>944519
>I no plasma is not a laser you fucknut
>someone said you could buy a laser for around $5k.
Reading comprehension much? >>943618
>CNC plasma
>They are only like $5k and up.
Now, I really don't believe anything you say at all.
>>944528
I have a scratch start plasma cutter, I dont have a cnc machine which will need a different type of plasma cutter to be compatible.
>still implying I can make even a laser for $5k, let alone a cnc machine
Basicly I can not afford a 4kw laser, I do own a plasma cutter, I do not own a CNC machine, If i did buy a CNC machine I would need to buy a new/better plasma cutter for it to work.
>>944543
>>still implying I can make even a laser for $5k, let alone a cnc machine
No one said or implied that. This conversation has been about DIY CNC Plasma cutter.
>>943128
the perfect device for executing mice
All this talk about plasma vs. laser for cutting out shapes from flat stock, and nobody mentions EDM...
There should be more DIY EDM machines out there.

>Size
>Weight

But yeah they are cheaper, but they also have more things go wrong with them.
Plasma CNC is the most simple, basic machine, just uses air and a few consumables that need replacing once over 10 uses? at a price of £3. But the downside is it only cuts steel, which is the only material I use.
