Wood type ?
Tree wood
I'm guessing cherry with a dark brown stain

If it's from an actual barrel, probably some kind of oak. Definitely stained after the fact.

Thx guys here's some more pictures for fun

Tough call between cherry and oak. While Cedar is common in barrels, this looks too hard to be Cedar. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't think it's oak though because the grain is too clear, and there's some curly spots.

It is definitely not oak. I think first reply got it right.

Hmm. Never heard of cherry being used for a barrel. As far as I know, the only types of wood used for barrels that will hold alcohol are 3 or 4 different types of oak, maybe redwood, and cedar for sake.
What type of alcohol would be stored in a cherry wood barrel?

If it's not oak, then it's probably not from a barrel like I was originally guessing.

It's poplar. Cherry or other fancy woods are too spensive for common remolding.
