How many lumens do I want for my bedroom slash office (I work from home now)? There's only one overhead socket.

(I know lightbulbs aren't /diy/ but I didn't know where the hell to put this)

Install a dimmer. /thread

Rented, can't. (Also, I thought they didn't work with LEDs.)

Get a floor lamp and a dimmer. There are LEDs you can dim but they cost bit more. Worth it IMO, they're much more reliable than incandescents.

If you can handle the buzzing from the led transformer.

2700k ambient light is closer to incandescent. 5000k is more like white light and is brighter IMO
If your light fixture is like pic you can re-install the fixture (if it is opposite) to shine more on your work, or get a fixture that has 2 light sockets and really brighten it up for work. A second hand store or Habitat for Humanity type of place would have these for cheap.
Like someone else said get a freestanding or desk lamp for the low light preference.

How's night time treating you, scrub?

I have two 53 watt halogen incandescent lamps in a semi-indirect ceiling fixture lighting my ~120 square foot bedroom slash office. They are rated at 1050 lumens each, for 2100 lumens total. I'm quite content with it and find it bright enough for daytime computer use but not too bright before getting into bed at night.

I can never tell when it's night thanks to my 2200 lumen bulb.

So, is good.
