I got an old foot-powered sewing machine structure (the cast iron part) and plan to make a lathe out of it. But I'm having a problem and I can't seem to find a good solution due to my lack of knowledge in this area.
As the picture shows, one of the four table supporters is broken, and I don't have the broken part, nor any experience in welding. And as far as I read, it's kinda tricky to weld cast iron.
So, how can I fix it? Any ideas? It must be sturdy.

If I understand correctly, you want to make a table and put a lathe machine on it ? Or use the old mechanism to power the lathe ?
About the supporter, all I can see is to use soldering and some piece of metal. If you want to make it even you would need to find another sewing machine.

You could perhaps sculpt a replacement from some other material and glue it on or something, unless you really want to have it be all cast iron.
Make a mold from one of the whole table fittings?

just put an extra wood slat under your base on that spot and surround it with some molding to hide. you are over thinking this
If you don't have the type of welder to fix it, take it to a fabrication shop and have them do it.
From what i understand you'd be better off braze welding a piece on, less likely to fuck up than regular welding. But you will need to heat the piece before hand.

Or maybe drill some holes in the broken one, attach rebar to it and then cast a concrete replacement
