Be honest, how often is your workbench ever clean like this?

Workbench too full.
Oscilloscope, drill stand, multimeter and a few random tools resting on my night stand along with misc. components and a shitty PSU that I built a few years ago.

Sine wave generator and Lab PSU are on top of a closet.
Breadboard with a PWM controller is on my computer desk chair along with my netbook.
I'm in bed with my laptop because I've got no room elsewhere, unless I move stuff to the bed.

pls give me more space

I would argue that my bench is actually cleaner than that, since he's obviously cleaned it up for the sake of taking a pretty picture (just look at those perfectly lined up meters and pens, lol). Once he actually starts doing anything at that bench, it's going to mess up like no tomorrow, since he hasn't made any allocation for tools in use.

I don't believe in hiding stuff. Everything to the left of the vertical rack-mount gear, with the exception of the plastic bags on top of the component cabinets and the roll of tape behind the analogue scope, is exactly where it's supposed to be, and it is there because it's stuff that I use on a regular basis. There's no point trying to stow away things like that, because it just means that you'll waste time taking it out all the time.

That includes the drill, the cut-up soda can, the protoboard, the Koskenkorva bottle, the unallocated power cables and the pieces of wood on the floor. The two batteries by the multimeter are part of a video project I'm working on right now.

I didn't clean prior to taking this picture.

I have these horrible urges to clean up, I can't work if there is a lot of clutter around (I got that from my mother).

My bench is cleaned / organized almost every second day since I can't stand it dirty for more than a day.

The one on top of the bench is a TTI EX752M. It's the single best thing that ever happened to me in my entire life.

The one under the bench is a 44A low voltage supply that you can watch a video about here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgrzGiTmDeM

They are silly expensive, but so worth it. Just imagine the freedom of knowing that you have a DC power supply that's going to power everything ever made and basically prevent you from ever blowing up a component ever again. You can even plug universal voltage switchmode power supplies straight into the front panel of it if you want to.

I got mine for free, though. :^)

>>

thats breddy gud output but what is the point of mode a/b do you need the precision when you only monitor 10mA?

>spend ages save up for a nice bench ps
>order it, really excited cant wait to play with it.
>take it out of the box, have a play with it
>realize 10mA current monitor is not helpful
>like a week later new range announced that has 3dp displays.

i'm not buying another one unless its computer controlled. just because.

Mode A gives you separate control over two 0-75 V channels at 2 A, mode B gives you a single control over one 0-75 V channel at 4 A.

As far as resolution goes, the EX752M is made for relatively heavy-duty stuff. Its strength lies in its flexibility to deliver anything from 2 mA up to 4 A at voltages below 75 V, and 2 A at voltages above that, while weighing in at only about 4 kg and having no fan because lol switchmode. It's in essence the most general purpose power supply I've ever seen.

If you're doing really finicky stuff, you're probably better off with something like that fancy new Rigol 3-channel programmable supply.
>>
>>910990
I omitted the part where I spent 30 hours repairing it after I brought it home. Someone had exploded the output and caused some really obscure, erratic issues because one single 100 Ohm resistor had burned up, too.

Then the intern had tried and failed horribly to fix it, causing about as much additional damage. It was a real mess.

if a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind, what is an empty desk a sign of?
>>
>>913607
I challenge the initial assertion until a proper scientific study of desk/head interaction has been published in a respected journal.
>>
>>913613
That assumption has been challenged already.
http://www.psychologicalscience.org/index.php/news/releases/tidy-desk-or-messy-desk-each-has-its-benefits.html

Dunno how respected the journal is, though. I've been taught that everything with "science" in its name is unlikely to be science.

So, according to that article, a messy workplace is a creative one, while a clean one is a happy one.

As a happy and creative person, this makes me feel accomplished in my balance.

Advantest TR4172 , so sort-of. It's a spectrum analyser that can do amplitude and group delay analysis as well, and generates nice Smith charts. Only goes to 1.8GHz, though, so not ideal for antenna work, but I've got other toys for that.

Not often enough

This is a bit of an old picture, I've been slowly investing in tools, just bought a cheap lab power supply, might get a drill press next year.

Still trying to figure out a good way to keep everything organised, Adam savage has given me some good inspiration.
