so im going to the desert and want to try to make cast iron deep dish pizza in a diy cardboard, tape and foil solar oven,

-im asking for your ideas and thoughts on this project-

1. solar oven
-something square/rectangle like this
-flat with four flaps so i dont have to rotate it to follow the sun throughout the day, ill be out and about fucking off
-it wont get very hot, i imagine 200-250degF
-i imagine keeping the foil flat and unwrinkled is very important
-all i have for a lid is some wrinkled turkey bags. I dont have a properly sized piece of glass nor do i know where to get one
-thick black cast iron pan i will cook in, will this prevent it from heating up quickly? should i use a thin black pie pan?
-should i put a black lid on it? does liquid need to cook/vent out of the sauce and/or dough?

2.pizzza
-sauce over the cheese so it can just cook and cook and cook without burning the cheese
-i will spread the dough thin, thin layer of cheese and thin layer of sauce because too much stuff in there and it just wont heat up
-sauce will have a bunch of veggies (toppings) cooked into it
>>
would a thinner pan like this cook better than a thick cast iron?
>>
i don't believe that

Heating the cast iron pan from the bottom is important. That way the heat will spread through the metal and radiate.

I've had great success making pizza in cast iron, but never done it in a solar cooker.

The key is to cook the pepperoni first to get some of that oil out.

Low moisture mozzarella is important too, otherwise the thing just ends up full of liquid when it's done

Then you put the rest of the crust on top and seal the edges...

finally, as OP suggested, you put sauce on the very top so the crust doesn't burn.

Delicious hot pizza.

so i would have to elevate the bottom above the floor of the oven
that will significantly raise the height of the oven
i recall the solar oven guide mentioning that the oven should be as short as possible, but i dont recall why

maybe i could make a number of pizzas at a time on smaller, round, dark, metal pans? about four 6 to 8in diameter pans

the guide did mention cook a couple small pots of food as opposed to one big pot

You should look into fresnel lense cookers

Remember kids, heat rises in gases and liquids, but in solids heat disperses evenly.

You must be super proud of your traditional Italian pizza, considering it was a cheap ass solution to feed the white trash poor in Naples.

Admit it, you're a neck-bearded luddite. I bet you wrote that response from your Internet connected typewriter. If you feel like everything should be just like it was in the 16th century, why are you even on the internet at all?

It's not Italian pizza. It's not for you.
