Im lookig for a few pointers to start me off. Google has let me down.
Ive got this old PC which had a failed Hard drive. I want to put an old blank HDD in and install a lynux system. Thing is the bios dosent recognise the hard drive. Any tips, or ideas folks?

what do you mean 'doesn't recognize'?
it never shows up in the bios? is it IDE or SATA? is the IDE or SATA controller enabled? do you know for sure the old blank hdd works?

Retries are a good thing when doing installs, as is having a variety of different distros when fucking with older hardware. Some install, some don't.

Ubuntu probably installed the bootloader on the USB drive.
