>853D soldering station
It's a good choice
I was looking at a similar one for regular home soldering and stuff because it looks neat and has a lot of features for only $100
>>1016344
As much as everyone shits on the cheap chinese soldering stations, I have an 852D+ and it works great.
That being said, there's some issue with it that can give you a tingle if you're suitably grounded...
wots difference between Pic(s) Related - apart from, dgital/analogue VU and USB for fuck knows why? This all same firm (older/newer) or knock-offs of knock-offs? ta.

Atten 8586 masterrace here.
Best spent 100$ (plus 10$ for decent soldering iron tips)
afaik, 853D is p. much the same inside

what are good soldering iron tips ?
are the one included bad ?
>>1016419
why does it have RF printed near temp set , does RF means radio frequency ?
>>1016521
dunno what the RF means, but i do know there exist induction soldering stations that work on RF frequencies. advantage of those is that the tip can reach operating temps in about 3 secs. metcal is one maker, this is one of those stations, the MX-5010. very expensive but work like magic:

Cheap is cheap for a reason.
I bought a blackjack (one of the many rebadges of that Yihua) years ago, tried using it for a few months, had to get it repaired twice, and finally just threw it in a junk pile. I swore off the multifunction stations for almost a decade because of that.
Eventually I tried a friend's Hakko and realised that the problem was cheap is made of cheap. Dropped real cash on a Hakko FM206 (and an extra FX951 so I can have four tools hot and ready to go at all times). 20X the cost. Haven't regretted it for a second. Hakko is probably overpriced but I'd bet there's a happy medium out there.

Have this exact set sitting in my junk pile right now. Piece of shit, not worth repairing.
>>1016519
the one included was literally needle pin that you have to boost to 400C+ to solder a SMD component, and when it comes for soldering something to a fat ground plane or beefy cable is just "no".
So i bought a set of chisel shaped tips - one beefy and one smaller.

>t. David Johnson
go away Dave, you are not welcome here.
>>1016344
why the fuck does it have USB out on it? God damned communists.
>>1017354
Who's David Johnson?
>>1017354
That's the 4chan I'm used to. Too bad.
Not David Johnson, btw.

that looks... awkward. Cordless is a neat idea, but the weight and battery life are unlikely to make it easier to use than a good corded iron. And that's assuming they got the other ergonomics right, plus locking you into a niche tip system I've never seen before (and, it being Chinese, the design will be different next month and tips will no longer be available).
