Built my own guitar stand.

I'm learning to weld at school and had some down time.

How the steel started out.

Metal cut by oxy fuel torch.

I was going to use the track cutter but a 28 inch would have warped the metal so I cut squiggles into it 7 inches at a time and cooled it in our dunk tank. After cutting I used and angle grinder to polish it up.

Welded together.

The squiggle down the center helped warp the back stand straight piece forward slightly. It was leaning back too much and after I made that pattern with the tig torch it leveled everything out.

I also used rust-oleum crystal clear enamel to coat the metal so it wouldn't rust.

Another pic.

Some of the welding was a pain in the ads because of the air gaps and odd angles. Nothing squared up.

And now with the guitar in it.

The good news is I still suck at guitar.
>>
Did you at least pad the base and neck holder? Shit looks shady for guitar finish. Looks cool tho, would pair well with a death metal machine

looks like shit

Thanks lol

The clear coat is really thick and softened the round edges.

I might plastidip some of the wear surfaces but it's not like it rubs around in there and everything is pretty well deburred from the grinding I did.

It sits quite snug.

I also really ground out the top neck ring. It doesn't look like it but it's smooth to the touch and the plates that hold the bottom had their hard edges beveled off by the grinder.

Was totally expecting some kind of METAL axe but good for you OP. What gauge steel?
>>
>>1004932
Yeah lol.

It's quarter inch mild steel plate.

Anon, to answer your question in terms in which it was asked, it seems OP was dealing with 3 gauge steel.

Euroautists BTFO once again. Why can't you guys use anything that's the standard?

Guitar isn't the only thing you suck at.
>>
Sounds like you are the autist for disregarding a system that is the industry standard because it is difficult for you to understand. All your projects must conveniently only require steel in fraction of an inch thicknesses. You probably get butt hurt about 2x4's not being 2 inch by 4 inch.

Meh

It's so bad that it even holds the guitar I sent out for it to be able to do. All for the price of free.

Plus I have passed certs for aluminum sheet metal, stainless sheet metal So I am in fact terrible at welding like guitar.

Don't forget the metricfag! Any minute now OP's going to ask about soundproofing.

Muh, Muh gauge measures no one ever talks in inches in the US when building, Muh 2x4s are slightly less than 2x4 because wood dries, Muh daughter is getting fucked by habeeb in the UK and I'm mad.

Wasn't calling you the same as the guy saying the suck comment. Tagged you in it so you would see me talking shit to the guy you called a retard stone thrower

Perhaps I am missing the cool factor, but you would have been better off cutting/grinding the edges smooth.

This thing has "I am going to scratch the shit out of my guitar" written all over it.
>>
>>1006376
I beveled the edges away from the flat surface.

Also as I mentioned a long straight cut on my track cutter would have warped the metal. I could have done short straight cuts on the automated track cutter but it would have been a lot of grinding to get flush 90 degree corners and to blend the torch restarts. Hence the hand cut zig zag pattern.

It was a butch to chip off the hand cut slag and what not but it hasn't scratched the guitar yet. I put 6 coats of thick clear coat spray on it. The part that touched the neck of the guitar has a flat ground surface that I sanded after angle grinding.
>>
>>1004923
Glue some black felt to the contact points to protect the guitar. Otherwise, good job.
>>
>>1006383
Honestly that's a better idea than the plastidip idea I had. I will find some strips and do that. I probably need 6 square inches of felt max. The guitar only touches at the base of the neck and the bottom near the sling mount.

The clear coat really smoothed stuff up and this is my first guitar. It was not crazy expensive and I set it in the stand gently so I'm not to concerned. I will hit the craft store Sunday and check out felt and rubber mat.
