In 2005 I bought the last generator in Harbor Frieght which was also the last one in town. I had to have it because a hurricane was coming the next day.

Bastard is as quiet as a Honda and will run 12 hours on 2 gallons of gas.

11 years later and it still starts on the first pull.

I have 8 large pieces of machinery from harbor freight. They have all worked great for the last 4 years. Plus, I feel happy they only cost a third of Amurikan made crap.

No complaints.

Honestly nothing really ever stuck out to me. I think people accepted the fact that the tools are cheap and could afford for them to not work. It was only the real snobby assholes that would return stuff and get a whopping 6 dollars back.
I saw more of the sketchy motherfuckers bringing back bags full of unopened merch and most of the time we just had to give them credit for it.

Not that anon, but the harbor freight smell?

Pretty sure it's cheap chinese rubber and plastics with lead in them that are just off gassing.

Part tire smell, part cheap plastic power tool smell, part oil that covers everything metal to prevent rust smell.

That's exactly what it smells like to me.
>>
>>1004941
Sounds like the Harbor Freight smell is your closest available source to getting some of the Chinese Factory™ experience
>>
>>1003278
Voodoo was before the days of OpenGL and D3D. It was proprietary.
>>
>>1004941
This
The rubber and plastic do smell, but to me I think the packing grease/oil stuff they use is the biggest contributor to smell.

Bought a miter saw stand with wheels. Had a plastic bag filled with that oil around the whole stand. Had wheels in a separate dry bag to install.

I built it in my room, threw the box in my closet because I was lazy.

After a few days, I opened the closet and it was filled with the harbor freight smell.

Ive noticed it with a small drill press, a small belt sander, and a bench grinder. And none of these came from harbor freight, probably from the same exact factories.
Your other hardware stores would smell like it too if they were small and everything on the shelf had that same offgassing.

Those were a real thing. They were used for surgery when they had to cut off a limb back in the days before anesthetics. They were faster then a bone saw and were less jarring so they hurt less. Enjoy the nightmares.

I don't recall the name of the exact chemical but it is commonly used to soften plastics, and tends to be used overzealously in Chinese manufacturing. I remember it being a known carcinogen, we were told to avoid using / handling whenever possible.
>>
>>1005388
Nightmares? I will get me one of these! Thanks for the education anon

damnit everyone in the building is wondering why i'm laughing so hard

side note: the only piece of equipment i have from HF is an air compressor (for painting) - I *deliberately* bought what I thought was a cheap POS for a single painting job that I had to do. Five years later it works perfectly and I actually have yet to change the oil.
