It's too easy for the show to dismiss the ship like this--ESPECIALLY if they invoke the name of the actual ship! If anyone paid attention to the ending of that episode, it showed them hugging WITH THE SEA CAPTAIN STARING AT THEM.

I don't know if it was just new-ep hype but Mr. Candle Cares was really good. Liked the parallels to Blood Moon Ball, even with similar music (might be the same). Possibly new favorite episode.
Red Belt was okay. Comedy felt a little too tryhard in some parts and some jokes felt like they were spelling out the obvious, but it was cool for Marco to get his own episode.
Liked the continuity between the two segments (a Love Sentence sign is even in Star's locker in the first one), and how they're actually continuing the theme of Star trying to do things without magic. Was barely a subplot but it didn't really need that much focus either.
I'm also totally calling one of the Love Sentence guys being voiced by Patrick Stump and appearing in the upcoming episode called Starstruck.
Also Brittney either got fat or now has slight T&A going on. Seriously, look at her.
2 episodes in and I already think season 2 is going to be stronger overall than 1.

Mr. Candle Cares, now that was a great freaking episode!
We got some really overdue development for Tom, also I love to have an ep set in ECA once again, Star's subplot didnt really feel intrussive and it was nice to see another convo between Star and her Mom.
I feel this episode will destroy a ton of headcanons!and give even more fuel to the Tomco shippers...With Tom being surprisingly reasonable and getting along Marco very fast and easily and also accepting when he "lost" with ease.
I can't BELIEVE they actually used the term "Starco", now all we need is someone to call them "Cute and Perfect" and we are all set. And while Starco was once again confirmed to be platonic and Star clearly didnt show any sign of having hidden feelings for Marco they still threw a bone to the shippers at the end with that "Point: Marco" moment. So you Starco fans can rest easy.
The pacing was good and the gags were for the most part on point.
It was so nice to see Ferg, Alph and Brittney in there too,
All in all loved the episode, I will post my thoughts on "Red Belt" in another post... unless the thread gets deleted as i post this that is!

Tom wound up being a way more chill dude than I expected and it set it up for him to show up again in a less antagonistic role.
(Marco pulling off the infamous "smooch buddies" line just to piss off Tom was funny. I underestimated him.)

I dunno, apart from the dream sequence at the beginning it didn't really leave much of an impression on me? Star and the Diazes were really cute, but I just wasn't really invested in the main plot thread and I thought a lot of the jokes kinda fell flat.

I think they already had a plot in mind before it aired for us, to be fair, so I wouldn't quite call it pandering. Storm the Castle was recorded before anyone had seen a single episode, My New Wand/Ludo in the Wild (and probably these too) were being written and boarded when we'd only seen 1 or 2 episodes.

It really does remind me of a really fast shift to the same road Adventure Time went down, but that's a little unfair. I'd put this between Adventure Time and Steven Universe as far as trying to be plot driven goes. Hear me out, Marco is more dependable yes, but having Star as the weapon adds to the crazyness of the idea. Star's meant to learn how to control her magic because she's crazy with it, so making her actually be the magic/weapon adds to her having to learn how to better control with her powers, especially if she needs Marco to depend on her.
Makes for a better story aspect, plus it adds hilarity to their dynamic when working together.

Aside the shower thing, I think is obvious Marco has a huge issue with being alone, the fact that his parents take exchange students is a sign of it, also how he has Alfonzo and Ferguson in such a high regard only for the fact that they are his only friends, and also he has a very high regard Gustav too, so of course all the exchange students are very important to him, could it be simply because they kept him company?

Now my impressions on Red Belt.
It was a good episode, not outstanding but not awful either, and it finally solves the mistery of why Marco is a green belt despite being such a capable fighter.
It was nice to see anotehr episode of Star and Marco on their own, I love the Starco chemistry and interaction but once in a while is nice to see them on their own independiently of each other. That said Star's subplot could been better, this was mostly a Marco episode with some star bits here and there.
The dream sequence at the start was probably the most appealing part of the episode, not that Marco interacting with Sensei was bad but it suffered from something I will explain in a bit, while the dream had a lot going on and was visually interesting
Okay there is one thing this episode made me think about: Quiet.
This episode was TOO QUIET! It barely had background music at all! if anything had some themes that would pass more as ambiance than music. Season 1 had great music and I am noticing Season 2 has a lot of long scenes with no music at all but this episode made it very obvious when even the fight scene against the tape store dude was completely devoid of background music.
I dont mind the show using scenes without music, but the season 1 soundtrack was one of the show's highlights, I hope it doesnt mean this season we wont get a comparable amount of great songs.
But overal I enjoyed the episode, and is great to see Marco as a red belt!
Tho is sad we are yet to see Janna at all this season...

More or less the same rating I'd give 1 two episodes in, though this season's more plotty and the beginning of the last was more episodic comedy.
I think it's actually doing a great job so far at what it's trying to do, continuing stuff set up in season 1 in a natural way and expanding the world of the show. The points taken away are actually for the same problems I had with a lot of 1: some jokes that don't work and bits that drag on to long.

Well at least both episodes brought a little something with them.
First one finally made Tom be more than the RAWR! JEALOYS EX! character and the second one at least changed a bit of the status quo making Marco a red belt.
I agree that it pales to last week, but the premiere, specially Ludo in the Wild were very strong, I trust future episodes to be at least as good or surpass them.

Damn, nobody likes these episodes huh? Well, I mean Mr. Candle Cares was definitely top tier for me. It was pretty damn funny, even though it was shipping bait. I liked it 9/10.
Red Belt was, honestly, meh. It could've been much better. It lacked music. Though that may be a stylistic choice, it was one that they should've don't differently. Plus, it was rather dumb in a way. The sensei is a mama's boy, and some of the jokes seem....I don't know.....stupid for lack of a better word. It was not the best, but it's not a lobster Claws. 6.5/10

Oh, I liked it too, a lot more than I thought I would. I also liked Ludo even in season 1, though mostly after Toffee showed up and he became increasingly more pathetic.
It's just I think comments like "inarguable BEST EPISODE EVER" and "series has reached its peak, might as well kill ourselves now" are kind of blowing a surprisingly good and unique episode out of proportion.

Some of the jokes on Red Belt were definitively weak.
The whole "Star wants a hammer" thing, what house doesnt have a hammer? you know? one of the most basic tools there is? and "I am gonna need nails!" is a really weak punchline.
Also the Scissors joke at the end, it didnt even made sense or was very funny.
It doesnt ruin the ep for me but those stood out to me the most. I admit that despite the whole Hammer and Nails thing with star being so lame to me, I chuckled at her being so proud of the mess she made at the end.

You know why were all disappointed? It's because we saw Ludo in the Wild last week, which was regarded as at least 8.5/10 to the entire fandom. And we go from that to possibly the most obvious shipping bait ever seen in a cartoon ever and "le mama boy sensei with no music" episodes, which have left us somewhat disappointed from the pure art last week with Ludo.

Okay so I think the crazy Star in his dream is meant to be prophetic of the negative effects that the wand will have on her, or something similar. Notice the familiar green hue.
The moon is Blood Moon. It's possible to interpret it being the last object in the sky as meaning it's significance will eclipse the other people. Or that Marco and Star's connection will attract people to them.
The locker is broadly his fear of being stuck in his current situation. I do wonder though if the purple hearts are just reinforcing the metaphor or if it means something with regards to his relationship with star.
