Light hearted fun with sprinkles of black humor and lewd joke. Not as funny as Gravity Falls, not as plot thick as Gravity Falls (even though season 1, especially after the sixth episode, starts to give small pieces of lore, and season 2 is going to be even more lore-centric). Watching the two main characters interact is extremely entertaining, even more if you want to ship. They have one of the best portrayal of friendship I've ever seen in a western cartoon.
Not the perfect show, but a very easy one to grow fond of. Season 2 already shows marked improvements in its first episode, so we can only hope for it to continue on this road.
I rate it "a lot of people say this is not their favorite show and yet they fandom the hell out of it / 10"

I like it because it makes the show seem more "real," somehow, despite the show focusing on two weirdoes in a world with literal magic.
When Star does shit like throw a bunch of rocks and fish at her door and seriously expects it to magically open that way, it just makes the whole thing feel that much dumber and mundane.
Also I think a lot of cartoons/anime are kind of shit at using the decent music they have and just play the same tracks over and over and over, and so it's good to see one that's actually original with it.
